Reduce the probability of a single point failure in the battery system, which disables the vehicle. Especially at an inopportune time/location.
I would ask are you ever out so alone no one can jump you, otherwise, good plan.

Than you got exactly what you wanted. Your systems make it that you can lose one battery and switch on the backup one. Now you are even in better posture as you have a new one and a old one reducing even further the possibility as they both fails of "old age".
This systems make it that you have the luxury of having one fail eliminating the requirements for precise battery testing.

Ya, I think your best test is your jeep not starting ;)

That, I understand. The point of the battery tester, for me, is to give me adequate notification that the battery is going downhill, so I can accommodate the long lead purchase/shipping time of these dang double oddball group 25 Odyssey batteries.

All alone...all the time...in the concrete jungle. ;)

There are times I've been in the eastern Mojave, in the middle of the week, without any other vehicle in sight or having seen one for hours. It's not often and I do try to carry a little lithium jump pack. But lets face it, those little things are marginal. But the consequences could be very high in certain times of the year. I doubt any of the popular recreational off-roading trails would be without some traffic, on weekends. But I'm retired and tend to do things in the middle of the week with a solo vehicle if possible.

Same. That informed my decision to recently install an EC5 harness on the Suzuki, so that I could jump start it easily with my Antigravity whenever the Yuasa YTX9 departs this Vale of Tears. The harness solves the dual annoyance of having to carry alligator clamps, and disassembling half of the bike just to get access to the battery posts.

Just hit it with any real load tester cheap or expensive - not system tester. You will get your answer. Pronto. We have multiple batteries we maintain 24/7 so have experienced exactly when they die and under what conditions.

Currently we have 5# - 12V batteries being smart charged 24/7. All the smart charger does is extend the lifespan and indicate when your battery is about to die or is already dead. That is it. Ex. Porsche not smart charged died in 4 years - smart charged lasted 12 years. Benz smart charged lasted 15 years.

The many more - thousands of reviews for the cheap load tester are pretty much the same as the expensive one. So one can always pay more if they want to and it makes them feel better. However both look to do the job just fine. Dead or alive under load. That is what matters in the end.

Which battery is the IBS connected to? Genesis guidance is to put it on the accessory battery, it needs to be on the main battery to provide the meaningful main battery information that can be accessed with jscan.

So the lead time for getting a new battery while you are still operational is a risk you want to avoid ?
You can also try to tell me, you are OCD without telling me ;)

No. never. Tell you that is.

Yeah getting an Odyssey can take a while. I wish the dual setup used a more common battery.

I have 2 Blue Sea voltmeters in my interior so I can monitor my batteries with the vehicle off while remote/camping. Like you, I could jump my vehicle from my accessory battery. And, it's charged by a REDARC BCDC, so if it's dead I can get some free juice from the intermittent big yellow sky orb using my 200 watts of solar panels (eventually, weather cooperating, location permitting).

Yes, with respect to JL electronics/function, the IBS should be on the crank/main battery. But that may not be convenient with the Genesis system.

Either way, the IBS monitors the battery it's attached to, so JScan can be used to monitor that battery regardless of whether it cranks the engine or is electrically disconnected from other Jeep electronics when the vehicle isn't operating.

I'm at the point where I'm ready to buy a battery tester that will tell me, before I go on a long road trip, that my battery is in good condition or it's hanging on by its fingernails. I'm tired to SWAG'ing it. Sometimes that hasn't worked out logistically well.

Not long ago, I was ready to buy what looks like an "old tech" large clunky carbon pile battery tester with an analog meter. Now, I'm not so sure that's the best route. There are many small, digital devices that seem to provide many more parameters.

I know we have some very knowledgeable people in our membership here, that can educate me/us on some of these devices. Thanks in advance of sharing your knowledge.

Some random selections of what I've seen out there.
1000 Amp DC, 6/12/24V Carbon Pile Battery and System Load Tester

12V Digital Battery and System Tester

Amazon.com: Car Battery Tester, TOPDON BT600 12V, 12V/24V Cranking Tests and Charging Alternator Load 100-2000CCA Digital Battery Voltage Tester, 3.5" Screen with Built-in Printer : Automotive

Amazon.com: FOXWELL BT705 Car Battery Tester 12V 24V, Automotive 100-2000CCA Battery Load Tester Analyzer, Digital Cold Cranking Charging System Alternator Tester for Heavy Duty Truck Boat Marine SUV ATV : Automotive
I have the TopDon and I love it. Great price too.
