Replacing filter and make sure oil level is adequate. You might need a little more oil because of the amount that stays in the filter. Maybe 10-15% of a quart. Like you said, insurance...

OK. I just found Mobil 1 M1C-456A oil filters on clearance at 3 local Walmart’s for $3.99 each!!!!! Get em while they are hot. I bought 22 of them. No more around Sachse Tx.

1,400 miles for our first one. YMMV. Afterwards, I'm planning a 5K change cycle, providing it's "full, true synthetic". Gotta watch the US oils. Only because the US can be loosey-goosey, with the synthetic definition. The German oil on the other hand is very tight on the legal definition.Oil Change???

I've never felt much difference in engine noise and smoothness after oil changes, even when switching brands and weights, but today I changed the oil in my JK 3.8 and am pretty certain I feel and hear a difference (for the better.) I went from Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 5w30 (6k miles) to Valvoline Modern Engine 5w20. I picked up that Valvoline on clearance at Wal Mart a couple months ago. The 3.8 seems to like it, so we'll see how it goes as the miles rack up on it. If I continue to feel it runs smoother, I may try a run of their 0w20 in the JL.I just did my first oil change yesterday, 6/15. Brought her home on 3/18, and was at nearly 2600 miles. I did full synthetic which I did not run on my JKU I had for 5 years. Just starting up already feels better and smoother to me.
