I thought about it more and realized that rubbing is a function of a bump stop and if it does not rub (minor rub in my case) with Rubi shocks and springs, it will not rub with stock sport suspension.

My tires are General Grabber 275 70 R18s with no lift. Stock wheels. Stock suspension. Specs list the tires height as 33.2" In a year and a half of all kinds of driving, I've never experienced any rubbing.

Interesting. I guess each jeep is different. I had some rubbing on fender liners on Moab trails with rubicon wheels and rubicon suspension with 1" spacers up front. With 315 KO2's I had minor rubbing on fenders with 2" spacer lift, 2" bump stops, wider Rubi axles, +10 offset wheels and diesel rubicon springs. And Rubicon supposedly fits 35" with no lift.
Front wheel lightly touches the top part of the fender in this picture.

I'm thinking because the offset of those wheels? if you were on stockers it would prob not rub fenders as much? And I was talking 33's, not 35's.

In 4 days of wheeling Moab, I didn't experience any rubbing. And that was over several Badge of Honor trails.
At one point my Sahara had 275/70R18 KO2s (33.2”) and a 3/4” Dynastar leveling kit. The tires didn’t rub 99% of the time; they did rub a little once or twice on a trail, at extreme articulation.

I went through all the tire sizes from stock to 35s, and can tell you without a doubt that the very best set-up for looks without too big an impact on performance/driving fun is Rubicon take-offs (285/70r17 wich are considered 33 inch tires) with a levelling kit. I recommend the Teraflex levelling kit that consists of 2 inch front and 1.5 inch rear coil spacers. Don't forget that your Sport is 0.75 inch lower than Saharas, and 1.5 inch lower than Rubicons. Keep that in mind when you read other comments, hence why I recommend the Teraflex kit.

As soon as I went to 34 inch tires, I totally fealth the added weight and couldn't ignore the impact on gearing as driving pleasure was replaced by frustration and my transmission kept hunting for gears on the highway. I couldn't justify driving and enduring a vehicle worth that much as if it was a beater with transmission problems. I installed a Hikeit X9 throttle controller, and although I was impressed with its impact on throttle, It didn't change the constant transmission gear hunting.

So after considering going back down to 285/70s, I decided to bite the bullet and have it regeared to 4.56 and install 35s. Now my friend, we are talking :) My Jeep looks killer AND turns those 35s as easily as it did the stock tinny tires. Kong Happy :)

1st Pic: 285/70r17 (33s) Rubi take-offs
2nd pic : 305/70r17 (34s) which was too much for stock gearing.
3rd pic: 315/70r17 (35s) with 4.56 gearing.

Nice man, I'm new to my jeep and stuck the rubi KO2 33's on my willys and I don't really think I'll be changing it any time soon as its only slightly larger than the Firestone M/Ts it came with anyways. But with stock height, I thought the sports were the same as saharas and willys? My willy's has the rubicon shocks, but not the springs (it has sport springs) but I'm also pretty sure the sahara doesn't ride higher than my willys?

Couldn't tell you as I'm not too familiar with the Willy's. In the dealer Charts, The Rubicon suspension is considered the ''Standard'' and Sahara is -0.75'' and the sport -1.50''

interesting. Can anyone else comment on this? i'm interested as well. I was under the assumption all of the trims besides the rubi were the same stock height.

too bad the willys isn't on there. And also, I wonder why the sahara is higher as I thought they had the same springs (or at least net the same height).

well, I know that my Sahara with the 3.6 has the same front springs as the Rubi with the 2.0 I realized it after buying a rubi take off suspension, omitting to ask the seller which engine he had. the rear was one number lower on each side. I have 89-90 and Rubi has 90-91

Also found this. Willys has same front as Sahara, but same rear as Sport?!

yeah I was just about to say, I doubt they'd make the willys sit shorter than the sahara. I know the willys has the rubi shocks, but the springs seem to be all over the place from what people post.

Follow up question as i've been researching this.

The general consensus is that running 35x12.5rx17 on an unlimited sport is that it'll struggle on highway and quickly eat at mpg's.

Rubi take offs @ 285x70rx17 are the best bang for the buck without regearing.

I've also got bushwacker hyperform fenders on order as i dont care for the stock sport fenders - i was assuming i'd be able to fit the 35's this way without a lift but i didn't consider the loss of power.

Guess that's why my Willys squats about 1/2" in the rear. Didn't do it new, but over time it has. It's still all stock, 2 years old with 17k miles. After I'm done with some other projects, it will be time to begin my mild build on it.

on a 2 door yes, but my 4 door the rear sits higher and I have some rake. Aren't willys (JL and JLU) the same height as a sahara? I think thats the original question we all had.
