Has anyone gotten notice of this recall? It’s about using the remote on batteries. They are offering a small rebate to qualified owners. I’ve sent my claim form in, we’ll see what happens. I think if one maintains and checks the battery often enough it would not be a problem.

Yep- got it via Amazon, where I bought my VR12S. Followed the steps, took a pic of the removed battery pack and submitted today. Mine had zero corrosion, but its never been used in the wet, and stays in the center console. I'll take $100 and new remote, especially when I never planned on using the wireless function of the winch remote anyway!

I quickly read through the submission form, so I may have missed it, they are sending a new remote and $100?

That's how I read this with the first and third bullet...

Well, torn into mine. Mine is setup for the battery to plug in and remove without soldered battery on it. I think I will just drop in a rechargeable battery since they almost never corrode. Looking up the number on the battery its lithium. What is your thoughts?

Nominal voltage on that is 3.6v

Two AAAs is just over 3.0v.

That is likely a safe voltage range.

Rechargeable lithium-ion is 3.7 up to 4.2v. You may release the magic smoke.

I saw that. My controller is in the console and I also installed a solenoid on aux 3. I would have to unbolt the winch from the bumper to get the serial. Considering the BT wired remote as well.

When I submitted the form, it didn't require the winch serial number- I just had to upload a picture of the wireless battery pack wires cut and the pack removed from the remote. I was gonna be pissed if they wanted the serial number....

I de-pinned the wires, took a picture and put the wires back in. I submitted the form twice thinking it did not go through and they actually sent me two updated remotes without wireless function. At least i have backups!

I think as long as good quality batteries are used, inspected yearly, and you don't take it swimming, the original remote should be fine.

So today I got the new non-wireless remote from Warn under this recall, but still haven't seen the $100 they promised as compensation for "loss" of the wireless function. But I never cared about the wireless function, as I wouldn't have use/trusted it anyway. Old wireless remote on the left, new one on the right. Old one still works wired, so nice to have a spare now!

so the only way to get the replacement is to show a picture with the wires disconnected or cut? I suppose I should do that…
