Hey gang. Anyone know if you can convert the Warn VR EVO 10 from steel to synthetic? If possible any suggestions on synthetic besides the super pricey Warn synthetics?

TIA

I believe the drum is the same from what I understand. Reason asking is have an opportunity to pick up new one with steel cable for a good price however prefer synthetic and want to see if changeover with all components if the deal is still worth it. TIA

I’ve done it twice and most winches give the option of ordering with either cable. Now do I know for a fact that this can be safely done? No. Have I been injured or killed by doing it? Also no.

Thanks bud. It appeared can be done with no issue just wasn’t sure if the drum was different between the two models. Appreciate the feedback and the recommendations on rope brand.

Fixing stupid....
Dont forget to line your drum if it has any marks on it from the steel cable.

also replace your fairlead.

when switching from steel to synthetic that you need to, replace the fairlead and use only a hawse fairlead, if you used a snatch block with the metal cable you need to replace that. The drum you can replace if you want but that is expensive and time consuming, so you can just file down and sharp edges and burs on the drum

basically anything that has a sharp edges that could have been created by the steel cable needs to be eliminated
