Been starting to hear more and more about Sport owners who were bait-and-switched on their rear diff, being told that they were getting the M220 (LSD), only to find out later that they have the M200. This is very troubling (but not surprising), especially when sales documents and even build sheets state that the M220 is installed. I'd prefer not to remove the rear diff cover just to confirm this, but is there a way to distinguish between the two just by looking at the exterior? Any difference in shape, alphanumeric stamps, something else? Appreciate any recommendations and happy Jeepin'!

It’s been posted on here before (a while back) that the diff covers have a different shape. See if you can search and find that thread. It was pretty good and had pics to show the differences.

I sort of recall that too but have been unable to find it, unfortunately.

The easiest way to tell is the location of the plug. For m200 the plug is in the middle of the flat, rectangular obtrusion on the differential cover. For the m220 is slightly lower and to the left, like the picture below.

Perfect...that's pretty much all I needed. Thanks so much and appreciate your help!

Top of rear axle directly below bump stop on passenger side. Pic is looking in passenger rear wheel well with wheel removed.

Ok so I had thought I have a M220 and I clicked a picture and it actually matched with the image @Terrymo posted. I ran a VIN check cos I was going to order Diff Covers and my b uild sheet has some weird rear and front axles :
Rear DANA M70/267mm
Front 5500# w/hub extension
Would the M220 D44 Diff covers work with my axle? Even though they look the same.....Ill take a better picture today.
