Hey everybody, this is my first post here. I’m hoping that someone can shed some light on an issue that I’m having. I recently purchased a 2024 JL 2door and I’m getting a strange vibration while coasting or decelerating from 60 to 50 mph. It only happens on the decel and not when accelerating. If I shift into neutral it stops. I would describe the vibration as a very deep almost like subwoofer noise that vibrates the entire cabin, but only within that 10 mph range. Jeep only has 500 miles on the odometer. Dealership says this is normal “Jeep noises” but I’ve had other jeeps that don’t make this noise. It’s a noise that can actually bother your eardrums. The sound gives your ears a very “full” feeling. Anybody out there have any ideas?

Sounds like it could be a universal joint.

I thought about a U joint or driveshaft issue. I just don’t understand why that would be a problem with a brand new jeep that only has 500 miles on it.

Do you have the Dana 44 LSD rear option? There is an issue with those failing super early and causing a knocking or rumble noise when coasting and the second you give it gas or hit the brake it would go away. Most talk about a knocking occurring at 10-20mph though.

Don't take the Jeep dealers word for anything. They said the knocking for me was my tires but swapped the busted LSD for a locker and the noise 'from my tires' magically went away.

I do not have the upgraded rear end. No knocking or other noises going on. Below 50 and above 60 everything is smooth and as it should be.

Oddly, our Grand Cherokee has the same 850RE 8 speed as our Wrangler. It does exactly what you are describing, but only in colder temps. Dealer could never figure out the issue. It is like a droning sound, right?

Yes, I would describe it as a drone noise. Almost like a drone from a loud exhaust system.

I had a similar issue with a new vehicle and the dealer told me that was normal. I said, then I would like to go for a ride in another vehicle on your lot to see if what you're telling me is true. He said, Ok sure. We went for a ride, as I expected, he was full of s**t! They put in a new transmission.

Best of luck friend.

This dealer I’m dealing with is terrible! I did ask to go for a ride in another Jeep and they said that they did not have any 2 door JL’s on the lot and the sound that I’m hearing is unique to the 2 door. 🤦🏻‍♂️. Mind you this is not the dealer that I bought it from. I bought it from another dealership that’s two hours away.

I would set aside a day and make the drive.

I hope everything works out for you.

Ok, so I went out and drove it and I can actually hear this noise coming on under throttle when I get close to 60 mph and then when I lift off the throttle and coast the noise gets louder and vibrates the cabin. I also noticed that there is a boom sound that resonates through the cabin when I hit a bump in the road or I’m driving on rougher pavement. And just like the other sound, this goes away as well when I put into neutral.

Is there another dealer nearby that you could try instead? You'll need to find a relatively local dealership that you can work with.
Yes, there is another dealership about 30 min away that is supposed to be better. I guess I am going to have to give them a try. I was just hoping to have an idea of what it might be before I took it in.

just for good measure, check the torque on your lug nuts.
