I have had the valve steam fail twice on the same tire. Once after adding two lbs of air and once after removing a couple. I am wondering why this may be happening on a specific tire and what could be done about it. Someone told me metal stems weren't and option...? Is there a recommended kit for changing them?

What is failing? The rubber section going through the hole? Or the valve core in the stem?

First time you could see the stem was cut on the outside. Second time I couldn't see anything. And of course the tpms light is now blinking after getting it replaced yesterday.

You can replace the stem, or the whole unit. If they replaced the whole unit, they might have put in the wrong frequency unit. I believe there was a change around mid-21 on those.

Buy good guy stems. Don't skimp on them. The cheap ones tire shops use often give you problems. I had all 4 go bad on my truck about a year after having tires installed. They all failed one at a time, within a few months of each other, just driving. The rubber dries out and cracks on cheap stems.
