I have the Bullet point phone charger in my 2024 Wrangler Sport S. It requires a Quick Charging USB-A or-C 2.0 or a Quick Charging USB-A or C 3.0. I've looked in the manual, but I can't find any reference to that. I'm hoping someone on this forum can tell me if there is such a thing in my vehicle.

None of the OEM USB ports support Qualcomm Quick Charge. They are all standard USB A & C ports.

If you require QC the easiest solution is to get a QC Cigarette Lighter Plug. A cleaner solution would be to install a QC USB port in your dashboard tray.

Thanks for the speedy answer. Are there instructions on how to install a QC USB port in my dashboard tray somewhere?

Are you absolutely sure it requires Quick Charge? That seems unlikely.

That's what their website says.
Yeah, that's unexpected. I'm not sure why someone would buy that for a vehicle that doesn't support it.

You can do as @Reinen suggested, either on the front of the cig lighter or on the back using an adapter. It won't be a data cable, so there's nothing special about wiring it.

Ironically, Bulletpoint sells the 12v QC Power supply kit as well as a cigarette socket adapter.

QC Power Supply

I'm not an Apple guy, only Android but it makes sense that they'd say that a QC power supply be necessary to ensure charging as wireless charging pads like the one they offer can be hit/miss when the current supplied isn't certified QC which in this case means a certain guaranteed consistent current level high enough for the phone to recognize it as offering a charge.

I use a lighter plug for my radar detector that has a USB port on it. I then just use the USB cable that came with the Bulletpoint Magsafe charger.

https://www.amazon.com/Uniden-LRDACWM044-Radar-Detector-Adapter/dp/B07Q41PT72

The concern with the Bulletpoint chargers is that they need the required power in order to charge properly. Most USB ports in vehicles only provide 5volts of power, which is not enough for wireless charging. That is why you should/need to use a lighter adapter with the proper power capabilities.

A lighter adapter like the one Bulletpoint sells should work just as well as what I posted above. Others can be found on Amazon.

Here's what I would do if I wanted to permanently add a QC USB port:

  1. Tap into the front cigarette lighter power using one of these - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=jeep+jl+power+adapter&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
  2. Install one of these or something similar and then tap into the adapter above to provide power- https://www.bulletpointmountingsolu...er-supply-to-dual-port-usb-c-usb-a-qc-4-0-kit

Right. I wouldn't have bought it had I known it needed a special plug. They don't make that clear when purchasing.

Read my posts above. I have had my wireless MagSafe charger for well over a year and use it without issue simply by providing power from the lighter port. There's nothing really special about what is needed. It is just that the standard USB ports do not provide enough power for wireless charging. This would be the case in any vehicle, not just the Wrangler JL.

Thanks jludave. Does this solution require taking the day apart? I'm a DIY idiot, no bueno.

I assume you mean dash.

You will need to pull the panel with the AC controls. A decent trim removal tool should be all you need. A bit of force is needed. but it is 100% doable. Then you should be able to pull the panel where the lighter is. Might be a screw or 2 that needs to be removed. There are videos on YouTube that show how to take apart that part of the dash. It is not difficult.

***Edit - Check out this video. It shows what you need to remove to get to the back of the lighter plug. You don't necessarily need to remove the radio, depending on where you want to mount your new USB plugs.

This was my first spring project this year. It's not as hard as it may seem. Lowering the windshield gives you all the room you need up there. Just be very careful that the 12v USB port you get doesn't collide with the back of the screen head unit. That would be hard to fix.
