I was wondering, has anyone pulled out the section of the center stack where the USB ports are and used a Y Splitter off the USB C port to completely hide the wire to your phone or other devices? Is this even possible? Right now, I have my phone plugged into the USB C port and the wire hidden behind the panel and the radio bezel up to the where it needs to come out and plug in. Id like to completely hide the lower end if possible. Thanks for the input.

USB can't be split with a simple Y connector. You'll need to pull that USB C port behind the dash, connect a USB hub to it and then extend the USB C from the hub to the center stack and wherever you want the phone port.

If you're just using USB C for power and not data, you can get a 12v USB C power port and wire it to any 12v power source. It will keep the phone charged but you can't use it for Android Auto or CarPlay.

So in the back of the stack, does it plug in as a standard USB port? Is there room back there for a USB hub? Wouldnt mind doing it that way either I just want to hide more of the cord. LOL

I've never pulled it apart to find out. I just know how USB works and splitting it so that data still works requires the electronic processing of a hub. There's obviously a hub somewhere in the Jeep as the port inside the center console can also be used for data. The ports for the rear seat are power only.

So that's another option. Remove the port out of the center console bin and use a USB extension cable run to wherever you want a plug for the phone.

I have no ports in the rear seats.

I thought the center console didnt work for CarPlay? I know I have tried it in the past and it would work for a moment then cut out. Threads on here seemed to point to it was by design. Not sure what the purpose of that would be though.

Do you have the factory aux harness? I wired in a 12V plug behind my glovebox and then added a USB-C charger then pulled a MagSafe puck up to a RAM mount mounted to my bulletpoint plate and have MagSafe charging for my iPhone with no visible wires(except the 4" I wrapped in black wire loom that goes from the puck into the dash). Fast, wireless charging with an extra USB-C port down behind the glovebox for anything extra I might add later

Yeah, I have that harness. My dash cam is wired into it. However, this would not work for me unless I went with wireless CarPlay. I do not care for the options out there right now for this due to the input lag of 2-3secs.

Hmmm. I haven't noticed any input lag at all with my adapter. I use the OTTOCAST CarPlay adapter and have had no issues except for the center console power staying on after leaving the Jeep. If I get out and take my phone with me, it "disconnects" but doesn't show it... I unplug the adapter from center console and within a few seconds it all comes back. To me the benefits outweigh those minor inconveniences. I just usually make sure I plop my phone up on the mount before I walk back into the house most of the time and it's fine.

My neighbor has one of their products. I think it was the one previous to that one though. Couldnt get it working. Then is when I tried Carlink 5.0 I think it was called. There was definitely lag with it. Id push for the next song and have to wait lol.

The ports for the rear seat are power only.
Not so in my 2018.
One port is power only, the other is data.

I know this because I use the data port for my phone. I simply routed the cable from the port between my seat and the console to my CupPhone.

If you look carefully at the icons next to each port, you can see which is the data port.

Interesting. Wasn't aware of that. That's not the case on the '21s.

Does your 2018 have the USB port inside the center console bin?
The '21 has that and it is a data port. Maybe they just moved the data port into the bin and added power-only ports for the rear seat.

I keep a USB thumb drive of MP3s in the bin port as backup tunes for when I'm out of cell and radio range.

Yes, my ‘18 has that port inside the bin and it is a data port. I used to use it to connect at my CupPhone, but now it is used for my wireless CarPlay adapter when someone else wants to connect to CarPlay through that device. The only downside is they can’t charge their phone BUT, that’s where the other rear charge port comes in handy.
Best of both worlds.

My center console port didn't work with CarPlay. I put a wireless CarPlay module in there about a year ago and have never had a problem since. Even works with my onX and GAIA maps.

My 2020 has data usb in the center console and at the rear as well. Have used both of them with Android auto without issue.
