I am plugging a jackery to my trailer to a 12V connection and charging it with solar panels. Keeping power consumption to a minumum. Light and no fuss. All I am powering is a fan and lights anyway.
What is the delivery date of the trailer you ordered?

feb-apr 2022 theyre pushing about 4 trailers a week. long list. Very popular company, great price/quality ratio. They sell for the original price used, great resale value for those who dont wanna wait.

I am not. I just had my first child, so I put the order as soon as she was born. I don't see myself going camping with a constantly crying high needs baby before she turns 1 lol. So I am not even thinking about the trailer atm. That's the beauty of it. I would have gone with something a little more expensive but with lesser lead time if I was on a different situation.

Plan is wife and I will sleep in the trailer with the baby. When she grows older will put a RTT on the trailer's rack.

Before the trailer we camped on an REI tent. We went out many times a year, weeklong trips too. campchef stove, 11lb propane, REI queen mattress. It was nice, but too much work with a kid.

Wow! Congrats man. I don't think I'll ever pull the plunge myself, but if God has different plans so be it.

Even with just me and my wife, I want to make things more simple. That nine day trip up through OR taught us a lot. We love camping and off roading/exploring, but we'd like things to be as simple and convenient as possible.

A lot of people call it "glamping" and make fun it, but to each their own. If being out in the wilderness as uncomfortable as possible is your definition of camping, all power to you :) I will take my trailer any day haha.

That is EXACTLY why we are buying a trailer. We've got 2 young boys, but that makes sleeping inside a small trailer impractical for us. And yes we could put either us or them in the RTT, but they are too young to be alone in their own sleeping area. That's one of the reasons we wanted RTT camping only with a big-ass tent and to not have a sleeping quarter built into the trailer.

Yeah it’s nice that there are so many options for each person‘s lifestyle now. The small trailer/off-road trailer market has grown tremendously. I’m really going to try to go out as much as possible once it comes in. There are so many options live in a SoCal it’s not even funny.

Lol I know. Ive been backpacking and camping since I was born. I never gotten used to it, I dont think you ever do. The more comfortable you are the more youll go out. Having a trailer in california id a must in my opinion, theres too much beauty around thats accessible mostly by camping. So we see it more of a way of traveling to remote places and making it a comfortable vacation.

Yeah we will be sharing a bed with the girl, but I dont mind it being a queem bed. Some squaredrop trailers you can get bunkbeds though. In the future I am sure she is gonna want her own space, so we will put a RTT on top of the trailer for us/her. I really dont enjoy all that much sleeping in tents lol, done it so many times I am kinda done with it. Who knows we might end up getting a big ass RTT too, I got extra roof racks anyway. And use the trailer to store stuff or as a living room.

I’ve seen some new rooftop tents that are all hard shell. They’re ridiculously priced like somewhere north of $15-$20,000. But they don’t have any fabric that can blow around in the wind. Even though I think the price is pretty crazy I get that it still allows for the adventurous spirit without having to deal with wind noise.

RTTs are not going anywhere and they keep evolving. You can basically put whatever you want on top of your trailer, which is very nice. Want a king size bed? get an ikamper. whant an ultralight? you have so many options. Theyll keep getting better/cheaper.

I myself was going to go iKamper but talk about expensive. I probably would have gone that route until I read many reviews that the mattress is thin and uncomfortable. People bring along extra mattress padding but for $4k no thank you sir. 23zero FTW.

Yeah that's the style we have right now too. It's not the most convenient or fastest setup. It does however allow for some of the most space and it tends to be the cheapest.

I have been looking at a RTT like this one. Basically every major brand offers one like this. The advantage with these is all your bedding, including pillows can stay inside of the tent when closed. One of the only styles that allows for quite a bit of items to stay locked in the tent when traveling to the next spot.

With my current RTT, we added a 2" memory foam topper on top of the provided 3" pad and can only add a sheet when closed. The wife has to hand me the bedding and pillows after the tent is setup. Hoping it's easier now the tent will be off the roof of the Jeep. I will keep the current RTT for a bit with the trailer and decide if I want to switch after a few runs with it.
