Has anyone had a problem with their transmission valve body on Rubicon ecoDeisel?

I assume it’s a variation of the ZF 8 speed? There are occasional valve body failures in this family, it’s a simple enough repair and it will last a very long time when fixed.

Not sure about the eco diesel trans but at 42k our 2.0 began hard shifts. Took to dealership and was told transmission failure and would need a new transmission. New transmission ordered and installed and leaked. ANOTHER new one is on week 3 of back order. I’m really questioning the Jeep transmissions now

Mine has severe judder. Predominately at either 45mph or 67mph, although it can occur at any speed. Take foot off accelerator and it stops. No judder when I accelerate aggressively. Otherwise the transmission shifts normally. Said that only the valve body needs to be repaired. At least at this point of the repair.

What’s the current ETA for your transmission? My 2.0 is at 45k miles and was towed in last week for transmission failure. They just told me a new transmission is needed. Currently waiting on warranty approval. They told me it is backordered but couldn’t give an ETA until the warranty approves it. Just curious how long I’m looking at being without it.

As I understand the valve body is separate from the transmission

They think my transmission is fine. Only the valve body needs to be replaced. Bodies are in short supply. Found one out west at a dealer that would sell it to my dealer. I am in Florida. I will have to wait weeks.

Still no eta for me. I called last week and they didn’t have any estimate as to time. I’m not sure if it was valve body related or not just that the dealership said it needed a whole new transmission.

@SantaClaus
The dealership mechanic said the valve body definitely needs replacing but he didn’t feel good at all that it was going to cure all of the issues. (It triggered 92 codes). However, it’s up to Jeep warranty whether they will try the valve body first or just go with the new transmission. So we will see what they say. I was told the valve body isn’t on backorder but the transmission is.

Generally speaking, the valve body is exposed when you remove the oil pan. Whether or not a transmission is fixed or replaced likely has more to do with the capabilities of the mechanic/shop and how much time they want to invest in it. Lots of shops will treat it like a black box that either works or doesn't.

So do I need to go ahead and set up an @JeepCares case? I’ve been without the Jeep a week already and definitely need a loaner.

I’m also having issues with my 2022 JLUR XR 3.6L e-torque Transmission. I just got word today that they need to replace the TCM and Valve Body. The part won’t be in u til at least 12/15/22. I dropped off my jeep on 11/3 and still have no rental car. It’s 11/14. @JeepCares , i have already sent you a PM.

Jeepcares can’t make a part suddenly appear out of thin air. They also can’t make you more important than any other customer waiting on the same part. It’s on back order, it’s not that bad.

Have you spoken directly to your dealership about them setting up a rental for you? Some dealerships will do it if they have great customer service and if you have a good relationship with them.
