My '21 392 has ~22k miles on it and started having the occasional SERV 4WD lights that would drop me out of 4L, which turned into occassionally getting it in regular driving, to always having it in regular driving to now telling me that the transfer case temperature is high and 4wd is temporarily unavailable during highway driving (all while waiting on a dealer appointment).

I got a call from my service guy today letting me know they identified that the transfer case has had an internal failure but that the service manager was reaching out to Chrysler to see if it would be covered under warranty due to my "heavy modifications" and so I wanted to see if anyone else has had warranty declined due to mods while I'm waiting to see if I'm going to have to fight them or not.

Mods are: 4.56 gears, 38" Trail Grapplers, Mopar beadlock wheels, RK 2.5" lift. There's a handful of other mods (chopped fenders, inner liners, skid plates, etc) but nothing else that touches the drivetrain. Is this really "heavily modded" enough to deny warranty for a transfer case failure?

It's easy to say the new gears and heavier wheels/ tires put more stress on the t-case. Just my opinion but if be surprised if it falls under warranty.

Sad to say yours isn't the first 392 with a failed transfer case. Winter 4x4 jamboree in Sand Hollow in January there were two that I know of that failed and I think trail recon had his fail too.

Ya I know it hasn't been uncommon and I'm hoping that the "burden of proof" being on the manufacturer will prevent me from having a really good excuse to go Atlas lol.

Haha! I like what I'm hearing. I'd go atlas anyway and sell or hold onto your brand new transfer case!

My 2021 2.0 TCase has been doing that for 3 years. Every time I'm offroad, SERV4WD and I lose 4WD.
They swapped: tcase, tcase motor, tcase position sensor, DTCM and checked numerous grounds and wiring. It's been into the dealer at least 10 times. It still throws tcase codes. I can get SERV4WD to come on if I do a left hand hard circle. Dealer has no clue. I'm convinced it has to do with the new "auto 4wd" piece of shit tcase with the clutches but as it's been replaced who knows.

I'd be interested if you do get a new Tcase, if it solves the problem.

Wellllll they decline warranty and a quick call to jeep cares and they told me they would be standing by the dealership's call.

Time for an atlas or a 4:1 rock trac. The atlas can be had with a factory similar 392 ratio. The mp3022 is just not a hardcore t-case. It really needs to be in 4L all the time off road If you want the clutches to last. You didn’t say if it was clutches or some other failure. But off roading in 4H auto or even 4H part time will wear the clutches out.

YEP,

Tube fenders and a 3 in lift.

Mech refused to work on my engine (UNDER warranty) due to him being height impaired...NOT KIDDING. He said he could not work or reach my engine well enough to do the work...YES he was that short, but he was the Wrangler 6 chl engine guy.

YES that can deny it for any mod.

Just like my new wheels and 35 tires on my 2023 JLR and the sensors went out on the right side only. The dealer told me 2023 JLR does not come with 35" tires, the warranty was denied, less than 1000 mi on my Jeep.

Ya I called and got an order in with Atlas earlier. I think even if warranty was offered I'd be scared of it happening again forever.

The errors given to me from the dealer were C1477-413 and C1438-00. Said clutches were worn, fluid was low and burnt with metal shavings in it. OBVIOUSLY that was caused by the big tires and aftermarket gears . Dealer quoted me a complete replacement at $5500 and Atlas quoted me $52XX shipped so decision looks like it will be easy enough.

My Jeep's transfer case failed when it was still in the running-in period, I believe I had not exceeded even 70 mph yet.
Total ~300ish miles. All was stock, so it was replaced under warranty.
However, it took almost a month at the dealer, and obviously no loaner given/ offered to me even after I insisted. It wasn't even a month old yet (that's JEEP customer service for a ~80k 392 Jeep for y'all)!
Can't image how anyone would've managed if this was their DD.
Cheers!

Curious, did Atlas give you an eta on their t-case? Looks like you might be waiting a while.

OK, yeah, that's what their site was saying. Hope you'll be able to continue to drive it until the case comes in.
