Towing a Car trailer

Towing question. Will my 2020 Rubicon Unlimited 2.0T automatic struggle pulling a car trailer with a combined weight of 4500lbs car+trailer? I'd be towing across the country from NC to Utah, and the trailer does have auto-brakes. Thanks.

Disregard. I thought the towing capacity was 4500lbs, looks to be 3500. It's a no go.

You will struggle, even flat towing will be tough. The biggest problem is the shorter wheelbase and stopping power.

Yeah, I think towing capacity is one of the reasons people were clamoring for the Gladiator.

I guess I can do a dolly, but that means I need to remove my driveshaft from my vehicle. ?

Again, not really the engine that will be the problem, the frame, brakes, wheelbase, and short rear overhang are simply not rated for it. I am sure you can do it, but may be a problem if you have an accident. Would not be a big deal for a short trip, but across the country is risky.

The same engine it the Grand Cherokee will tow 5,700 pounds. We towed a 5,500 pound trailer all over Colorado with my wife's Grand and the 3.6 and it struggled in the hills but was fine in the flats. Traded it in on an SRT Grand that is rate for 7,200 pounds and it is night and day going over the pass.

Commercial car transport? It's probably cheaper than the fuel to drive it.

I towed my snowmobiles in a pinch with my ‘18 rubicon MT and it went poorly. The trailer and the sleds were not real heavy, maybe around 3,000 lbs. no brake controller

the Jeep struggled getting up to speed on the highway, struggled to track straight, struggled to stop. I am glad it was a one time deal.

A truck or a full size SUV would probably be a better option to two consistently…even with light loads.

I pulled a 3100 lb car with a 450 lb dolly. It went really well until I was turning around in the rain, then the tow car pushed me around a little.

Friendly PSA: It's a good idea to check the date on a question before "helpfully" answering it.

Search and "similar threads" can be a great resource for locating information, and it's always great when folks add new information to old threads.

But I'm pretty sure @OrangeSlice finished moving his 240z to its new location long ago.
