Does anyone have any ideas on how to install a racor with this beam right in the middle of my ceiling? I have my “old” hoist from my last Jeep mounted to the ceiling and it flat out doesn’t work. Main reason being that I have new wheels and 12.5x35" tires on and the spare sticks out so much further that it is hard to get far enough back in the garage for the old placement to work. Rather than move the 2x4s on the ceiling, I'd rather put my new Topsy brackets to work with a racor lift...just cant figure out how to make it work.

I see 3 options:
1: Go into the attic, and mount the hoist ABOVE the ceiling. You'd need to make holes for the cables to hang through, and then mount the rack at such a height that it's below the beam and above the Jeep.
2: Make a frame/bracket on both sides of the beam, with them being as low as the beam. Mount the hoist to the new lower brackets.
3: Put a hole through the beam that is large enough to allow the center bar of the hoist to go through it. Then mount the hoist as normal to the ceiling (with the bar penetrating the beam)..

I think option 1 would be the cleanest looking, though option 2 would likely require the least work. Option 3 wouldn't look too bad, but would likely be the most work and require more precision.

Website form. I emailed yesterday about not being able to order and haven’t heard back. It’s the 1st time they haven’t emailed back within a day
Let us know what they say, I’ve been holding out for black too.

I’ll post a better description in a DIY section, but here’s a summation of the install for the Topsy metal ends that replace the Racor plastic ones:

First- a much needed update. They are far more sturdy and even a tad thinner. Makes me feel much better about the support.

Install is simple. A big time saver is to mark the placement of the current plastic pieces. This allows you to slide the new ones to the exact spot they were prior and save yourself a lot of time leveling it.

From there, reverse your steps from the last bit of install all the way to the part where you separate the middle bar.

Super easy, even taking the time to take pics and decide best course of action. I do know these are somewhat pre-production, but I believe they will have them ready soon. Once they do- I would definitely say it is a worthwhile update and one that might make you sleep better at night :)

Just heard back from Topsy. They said the black brackets will be available to order in the next day or two. They are updating their site

Question, has anyone installed a safety strap from the ceiling to the cage just in case their was a failure?

I've read threads where people have done that, yes.

Yes, I have open rafters, the top is directly above the hood of my other car car so I just looped a tie down around the rafter where I felt it would hold (center of gravity) if needed and not drop the load on the hood of my car. I didn't use two straps so there's always a concern that it could still slip out.

When I readjust how I use the topsy lift I'll likely make chains to hold the platform once in position to make it a quick snap of some hooks. Cheaper then my deductible on my auto insurance.

Maybe it's just the angle of the pics but it almost looks like your Racor needs to move forward about 1.5-2 feet so that you have room to back up to the point where the back edge of the Racor is right about the hinge area of the top. Or is it just an illusion and you have the room to back up that much further than is shown in the picture?
