I got just the Teraflex relocation bracket when I moved up to 37" tires. It worked, but I could tell the OEM hinges were struggling to support the weight. Could feel the gate sagging and it seemed like something might bend or break soon if I didn't do more to address the hinges. So I got a Rough Country tailgate reinforcement, and used that for a couple weeks but it honestly didn't really seem like it was any better than before. So I finally bit the bullet and bought the Teraflex reinforcement kit. Now it's awesome. It holds my 37" spare and feels like I could also pullups on the tailgate and it would be fine.

Long story short, trying to save money by buying only the bare minimum I thought I needed ended up costing about $250 more than if I had just bought the relocation bracket and reinforcement together in the first place.

Admittedly, it wasn't fun spending $1200 on a spare tire mounting solution, there were lots of other things I would've rather spent that money on. But it was worth it, and I'm glad I did it. Sunk that nail with a sledge hammer, now it's not a thing I'll ever have to worry about again, even if I end up doing 38's or 40's someday.
I been wanting to do this, or a bumper with tire carrier. How is the TeraFlex for rattles, my Jeep is stock with the 285's and rattles when I hit bumps

I've got the Teraflex Alpha HD Hinged Spare Tire Carrier & Adjustable Spare Tire Mount. I've got a ~126lbs tire/wheel mounted to it.
The Teraflex gear does not rattle. The Stock JL tailgate latch does rattle. There are some posts in the forum on how to reduce the stock latch rattle. Basically you get an amazon part for around <$20 and add some soft foam tape to it. I did that and it helped reduced the rattle a lot.

I have the TeraFlex Alpha HD and it's great. No rattles, no movement of the spare. The install wasn't the most fun and every once in a while I hit the arm with some lithium grease because it tends to creak when it gets dirty inside the mechanism.

if you just want to raise it, i've got a set of the Mopar Relocation Brackets that lift it a bit. i'd be willing to send you (you pay shipping).
missing some of the bolts that i reused when i moved on to another carrier, but you should be able to source those without too much trouble.

but if you're already looking at going to heavier tires, i'd support the suggestion that you just jump straight to a reinforcement that will handle the intended load (so you don't wind up with unused brackets, like i did). unlike some YouBoobers, my tailgate eventually sagged and twisted under 37s.

Hi all,
2022 JLUR. Upsized slightly from stock 285/70 to 315/70 tires. The 315 tire is about 26 pounds heavier (just factoring the weight of the rubber itself, not the air). The spare is rubbing on the bumper and I'm considering a tire relocation bracket. But I'm wondering if that's enough, or if I should be going with a full tailgate reinforcement kit. Obviously I'd rather spend less if the bracket is all I need. I will never go beyond 35s, although at some point I will likely go to the slightly heavier 10-ply Load Range E tire for severe duty gravel roads. Can I get away with just the bracket? Nearly $900 for the full kit is well over my budget.

I don't plan on ever going bigger than the 35s on there now (upgraded from stock 33s), but the new tire is rubbing on the bumper, plus I have a heavy-ish tailgate table on the opposite side of the gate.

right; but you mentioned considering heavier Es; yet more weight.

FWIW, i don’t know that gravel roads necessitate Es; most folks are fine doing far worse conditions with Ds or even Cs, and Es aren’t likely to ride as well.

From what I've been reading, residents in the Yukon and NWT pretty much all run all-terrain Es or else they're sustaining damage. Getting a second flat on the Dempster could leave me stranded hundreds of miles (and potentially thousands of dollars) from help. Cheap insurance. Now with that said, that's one trip (next year), after which I plan to go back to my current Cs.

Also, since the Es I plan to go with for that trip will be pizza cutters as opposed to the 12.5" I have now, they should weigh less than my current tires.
