I used heat and beat that tab with a hammer to be parallel to the axle. If I ever need it back, I can bend it back.

i like that idea. but dont you think that it might get fatigued bending and back?

I didn't feel comfortable cutting that steel blade off. I think as others said it was smart to save it, just in case. My other issue is laying on the ground and sometimes having to use tools or a jack to line up the hole to put the pin back in was not an option for me as I have severe arthritis in my spine and I'm old OK!

I chose Apex lynx and absolutely love them.

Best of luck friend.

I thought about that too. Its possible it might even crack. But if you're going to cut it off anyway its worth a try. Use plenty of heat, cherry red, it might be ok.

And FYI, their website says wheel BS must be 4.75 minimum - 4.5 preferred.

Note: I spoke with Apex, they said this 👆is based on a 35 x 12.5" tire.

Its not aluminium, maybe if you did it multiple times. I've reshaped tons of tools, pipes etc. Steel doesn't really crack unless done over and over again.

I like that manual disconnect. I keep wondering if this set up would work on a Sport. Will there be clearance issues or rubbing with the axles not being as wide?
I think it should be fine. I saw this setup on a Sport in a 4x4 shop a few months ago.

My hesitation I think is just more things that could break inside that disconnect box. Also the price. I already have a thing that works. As long as I wheel with a buddy I'll be able to have someone lean on the bumper and get them connected again.

Do you think there is any kind of minimum on wheel BS for Sport axles?
Would my current set up work? Stock wheels 17x7.5" 44mm offset & skinny tires. 33x10. With my set up they are tight, no poke. My jeep looks like it is trying to squeeze through a slot with the sides greased.

I'm not sure how offset would affect it. I was first told about this option by the owner of the 4x4 shop that installed my CavFab steering. If I ever end up back there I'll ask him.

My concern is the axle width. Which has been been somewhat disappointing to me and it was something I didn't know about when purchasing. :(

Yeah it makes it difficult to upgrade the axle. You have to find a D44 from a JT. I do have some regrets on not getting a Rubicon on the first place but then I think about all the fancy stuff that comes with the Rubi that I don't want and think I did better buying a Sport that I'll just keep building up over time.

Works fine on a Sport. Although you might have to modify the plastic valance "skid plate" thing a bit to reach the knob.

Thats why I didn't buy a Rubicon. I was trying to avoid extra bells & whistles and I wanted manual windows & locks. Of course there has been times I wonder if I made the right the decision. Oh well too late now.

@Tncdrew installed Rubicon disconnect on his Willys. Does Willys come with Sport axles or Rubicon axles?
