You'd be surprised how close the travel is with longer shocks on the JL. You can get a Raptor with 37s... which then had less suspension travel than one on 35s. The Raptor on 35s has 14" of front wheel travel and 15" rear. The 37s come with longer bump stops up front limiting the front to 13". A stock jlu. With the xr package has 9" up front and 11" in the rear in my measurements. Change the shocks out to something long travel like rock sports for cheap and I got 13.5" in the front and 16" in the rear. Sure the ifs handles different, but the rear axle and suspension setup is effectively the same.... and you're arguing the one that's lighter in the rear needs larger rear shocks?
I’m arguing that the one with gobs of hp running to the rear axle that has minimal weight planting it to the ground needs a larger/stiffer shock to handle the loads the motor is capable of. It’s Baja truck vs rock crawler dynamics. Also taking into effect the marketing draw of a stock truck with 3” shocks and overcompensation.

Both our JLUR and my JT see freeway plus speeds in the desert, which is what the OP was asking about. Why would you be suggesting shocks for "rock crawler dynamics" when the OP literally stated baja truck usage? And again stiff shock with no weight would actually make planting the power worse. The stiffness isn't a size thing it's a valving thing. The size is more of an overall damping and cooling thing.

Yeah I don’t like mine either. The MetalCloak reds aren’t much better. I’ll be looking at some Kings when it comes time to upgrade shocks.
I went with black rocksports. Best shocks I've ever had on my wranglers. Though i haven't tried too many.
Stock rubicon, bilstiens 4600, fox 2.0, red rocksport, and now black rocksport.
Almost went falcon 3.3, but having been passenger in them before, too firm for my liking. Blacksports on lowest setting ride like clouds on the road and rough washboard. Firm is nice for crawling.

If you have the money for the Fox 3.0's, might I suggest that the SDI E-Click is an awesome shock system. No need to adjust the shocks physically, everything is done digitally and from the comfort of the driver's seat. In addition to the three automatic settings you can choose, you can also customize the crap out of all the settings to dial it into exactly what you want (with the pro version) I also went with their integrated light controller so with one controller I can control all my lights (or whatever else you want to run power for) and my shocks. I literally just switch between street, off-road, and Baja settings and can do it all on the fly. The system takes into account steering angles (cornering), braking, acceleration, and the angles of descent/ascent and adjusts them all on the fly. Until I dialed it in and learned the system, I was concerned I had made a mistake, but now I love them.

DRIVING-AT-SPEEDS being in AZ you'd think you'd understand that but some people are afraid of the skinny pedal. 2.0s aren't near enough dampening. 2.5s are adequate. If pre-running is your primary use the 3.0s are perfect.
