Wow, have you seen who drives 70k jeeps now a days? They have replaced the subaru as the cliche vehicle.

Sales are down, the stock price is down 40%, and long standing customers don't want to purchase the product anymore. What could go wrong?

I love old CJs. The Buick engine was the Dauntless V6. The 4 cylinder was still a Willys design in those years.
Darn, must have been a Pontiac (definitely a GM 4 cylinder OHV (not Willys)) - Thanks so much for the correction!!! I drove that Jeep for years, changed the oil and filters and just now find out that it was a Buick V6...

That has been going on for a while. The other stuff happened in the last year or so.

I just bought my JL knowing that I'll have to learn more about electrical systems than I want to, and I'll have to deal with corrosion issues, though that should have a longer timeline since I am getting the warranty work done soon. I knew that going in and accept it.

I come from a YJ with 253,000 miles and a worn out 4cyl.

But, my wife knows I love Jeeps, I love trail riding, and I like the look. It makes me smile. She loves the JL, whereas she hated my YJ.

My Camry also has 250,000 miles but is stupid boring. I get out of the JL with a huge smile, every time.

Up through 1970/71 the 4 cylinder was still a Willys Hurricane. There was no 4 cylinder from 1972-1979. In 1980-83, the CJ5 did get the Pontiac 2.5 Iron Duke.

When someone buys a Jeep for the first time and doesn't like it because it rides too rough or the steering is loose, I am okay with that. That person needs another type of vehicle.

When someone has owned Jeeps for 35 years and doesn't want to buy another one, that is something else entirely.

Yes the Pontiac ā€œIron Dukeā€ I-4 was used, but just 80-83. The ā€œHurricaneā€ I-4 was used from the 3-B through the Willys 5 in 71, it was used in other models since at least 50.

The Tuxedo Park just had some fancy trim. The original luxury, if you want to call it that, Jeep was the Commando. Hardtop, roll up windows, available AC and auto. All to compete with Scout and Bronco. The Commando refresh was pretty damn ugly and sales plummeted. However the CJ7 arrived shortly after it was cancelled and the automatic, AC, hardtop and doors returned.
If youā€™re adding the Commando, I can argue that itā€™s a second attempt, not the first. šŸ˜

This is off the net, but I swear itā€™s my Dadā€™s friendā€™s. Identical, an exact spitting image, they put Wagon 4WD under it, Chevy V8, it was a beauty when finished. šŸ˜

Every time a post like this comes up, it solidifies that thread on ā€œyou didnā€™t buy the right vehicleā€ or something along those lines šŸ˜‚. Maybe it was by @Tredsdert donā€™t remember? The wrangler was MADE for off-roading/rock climbing. I truly donā€™t care who says otherwise, since those who donā€™t agree will inevitably end up buying something else within a year or two.

I left out the original Jeepster becuase ot was just meant to be a road car that kinda looked like a Jeep. None of the originals were 4x4 as far as I know.
