Or will they kind of be not very desirable in comparison to a 2019 JL in the used market a few years down the road.

Also do you guys think aftermarket will have a lot to fit 18s or do you guys think they'll be design changes for 2019 limiting aftermarket options for 18. Along the lines of BSG

I don't see where a 2018 will be any more or less valuable than following years other than model year / age like any other vehicle. The only design change I know of will be for the BSG and to be honest I don't upgrade anything remotely associated with that. Bumpers, armor, wheels, tires and suspension is all I'm concerned with. Sure, there may be some add-ons for the BSG but It's not like the fundamental workings of a Wrangler will be impacted that much. If it concerns you then just wait a few months when the 2019's are in production.

Projected lease residuals are around 75% of MSRP over the next three years. A few added features or updates isn't going to negatively affect that. The aftermarket will be largely unaffected by the 2019 as most changes will be pretty minor. In fact changes are probably good for the aftermarket because they add more things that can be modified. I think the biggest change anyone has mentioned is the option of a gorilla glass windshield.

First I've heard of gorilla glass might be nice but not worth waiting until 2019 for that.
I'm not really fond of the idea of BSG myself so want to get my order in before the July 19th cutoff for 2018 orders.

And most of the 2018’s will end up with that, anyway, since windshield lifespan of a Wrangler is about 6 days... :cwl:

No new vehicle bought from an American manufacturer's dealer lot is going to be valuable any time soon. You didn't buy a GT350 and even if you had maybe your grandkids will see it on Mecum going for a premium in 3 or 4 decades (cuz everything is electric and you're probably deceased.)

I don’t want the BSG. That’s one of the reasons I ordered an 18

I don't really mean valuable like collector item anytime soon, more so like will it hold value like the wranglers of past have or the 19 will.

I would not be surprised if 2018 JLs hold value worse than 2018 JKs (accounting for MSRP difference). Some people are gonna want to scoop up the last (and theoretically most reliable) of that generation, rather than the first year with a fair amount of problem childs.

My opinion

No BSG, no DI, etc. is a great thing.

However, if this goes anything like the JK, the 2018 model JL will feel old and outdated in just a few years. If you look at a 2007 JKU vs. 2012 JKU, there is no comparison. Redesigned tops, bigger windows, better options, improved powertrains, more colors, better interiors, etc. I expect that in a few years, the JLU will have moved way past where it is right now and few people will actually want a 2018.

That is an interesting thought- a 2006 TJ brings a premium over the 2007 JK, but I would say that has more to do with the 3.8 motor vs the 4.0. On the other hand the 2012 (first year of the 3.6) has a huge premium over the 2011 JK's because of the better motor, and transmission even though the 2011 and 2012 have the same interior. You also do not see a huge jump from 2010 to 2011 meaning the interior changes are not driving the price difference. If I were to have to guess, I would say that it will draw a premium over the JK's just because the JL's are such a HUGE step up. I drove it 3 hours yesterday with top down and mixed driving. It felt like a normal SUV for 99% of the ride. I think the 2018 will be just as desirable. And if you were one of the lucky ones to get a color like Nacho, or Hella Yellow (assuming they do not do that color in 2019) then I think you will have a decent premium on yours.

The fact of the matter is that it all has to do with the 2nd hand market and what people want. People want a low mileage TJ over a low mileage 2007 JK, so the JK dropped in value a bit while the TJ's hold strong. If people want the JL because it is better in almost every conceivable way (which I think they will) I believe the 2018 JL's will hold their value much better than the 2018 JK's.

Only time will tell.
