I have a stock Rubicon JLU and the tailgate has started rattling when I drive over bumps. It's driving me crazy. Anyone else have this problem?

I had someone sit in the back to try to pinpoint the noise while I was driving and all we could tell is the noise is coming from the latch area (driver's side). I thought it may have been the hard top, or the seat belt or something plastic but no. It sounds like it's coming from inside the tailgate.

It started after I washed/detailed the Jeep. I didn't take anything apart or adjust anything, just wiped the area down with Armorall wipes. That said, I did install a Mopar tailgate table about a month ago but It feels really solid and doesn't budge at all or make any noise whatsoever. Super solid.

I think i'm going to take into the dealership in a few weeks when I'm back from a work trip. @JeepCares

I had a strange noise from that area last week, I forgot which post I saw on the forum about this issue.
Which said to get Silicone Spray for rubber and put it on with a rag over all the rubber trim around the tailgate and rear window. Fixed my problem!!!

Did you have the noise before adding the table? Try removing it and see if it still exists, maybe something fell inside the gate? Or hardware too long and rubbing? Like mentioned above, silicone spray or soap and water mix or even rub a bar of soap around it. Funny but Ivory works best, we used the Ivorv flakes sprinkled on the ground when doing heavy rigging

I now have the same issue. My tailgate was sticking so I had dealer look at it. Said all they did was lube it, but now it rattles on bumps. What did you do to fix the issue. I will have a few days before I can take it back to the dealership......

Hey, Sorry to hear that. Are you running a stock size spare? My issue was due to a 35ā€ spare and thatā€™s what was making the gate rattle. I will pm you in about 2 hours. Im on my way to the doctors. I would first try by banging on the top of the tire, the outside of the tire that faces you both top and bottom . I would check the lug nuts to make sure they were tight, make sure that both rubber tire stops are there and compressed against the tire. Any modifications done to the gate, like a tire relocation bracket ? Check everything to make sure that itā€™s tight. Hardtop or soft top ? Let me know what you find, just pm means Iā€™ll get back to you when I get home

Same thing happend to my JLUR, the way I fixed it was applying a small film of dielectric grease all around the door rubber seal and problem solve!! Also make sure you apply a film in the tailgate aligner (underneath the stricker) and put some in the sticker also.

I have a 35in spare as well. With a relocation bracket. Everything is tight, still rattles. Dual top, rattles with both soft and hard tops on. Makes me feel like the thing is going to fall apart. Any other secrets?

I had a rattle and it turned out to be the plastic tray above the jack does not lock in and vibrates loose. I have to check it avery few days. Will show dealer on my next visit.

I have a loud creaking and rattle from the tailgate too. Originally I thought it was the hard top, but it's coming from the tailgate latch area too. (Driver's side) It's really loud! I can't get into my dealership for 2 weeks. They're booked solid :(

I had a creaking/rattling noise from the driver's rear corner in my JLUR that I was also able to narrow it down to the tailgate door striker/latch area. I adjusted the striker on the body (two T45 torx bolts) using this video as a guide:
I also lubricated the striker and door latch with a dielectric grease and the noise was gone.

The exterior vents to the outside of the jeep may be rattling, too. The vent is located behind the plastic panel on the tailgate and has louvers that close when the pressure inside the cabin is equal to the outside. I noticed when the A/C is on recirc I can hear the louvers rattling when i drive over bumps, but when it isn't on recirc and the louvers are held open by the air pressure, there is no rattle. Something else to check.
