So I disconnected my front sway bar on Saturday and have not reconnected it. Mostly cause I was beat after 5.5hrs on the trail and I’m lazy after work. I don’t drive far for work(24 miles round trip). I’m not sure if that’s bad for the suspension or not. The body roll doesn’t bother me. It’s actually more comfortable to drive this way. I have driven it much further with them disconnected before and it drove fine for me. If it’s not good for the front end I will reconnect them. The apex performance autolynx are in my basket but not in the budget yet. The teraflex stud kit will suffice in the meantime if it is crucial that they be reconnected.

I think driving mostly in straight lines with slow cornering would probably be ok without the sway bar connected, but imagine a scenario where you need to swerve quickly at high speed. That could induce oversteer and be disastrous.

Case in point, the other night driving home on the freeway I came upon a bumper blocking the #1 lane. Doing about 70, and quickly swerved to avoid it. I think something like that would have ended differently if the body were to roll too much to the outside.

Good question, Joe. Looking forward to the 'expert' responses.

I do agree that driving at highway speeds with your sway bar disconnected isn't as safe... I wouldn't do it. If you are going into town and back and doing 35, I say no issue. As far as wear and tear on your suspension... my educated guess says no issue.

I often run around disconnected ( electro disco with Tazer hack). Some of our infrastructure is no better than the trails… Keep in mind, I’m on a lift with adjustable shocks that I run a little firmer on the highway….I’ve taken evasive maneuvers at 60 in mine for deer, or roadkill and it was fine, but I don’t think I would do it in a stocker……If the roll doesn’t bother you, then maybe look into running an Antirock sway bar…..

You may want to ask @Tredsdert. If I am not mistaken he disconnected his sway bar and never looked back. I don't have much of an opinion on the matter because I have yet to disconnect my sway bar.

You could find someone offloading their electronic swaybar and just purchase this. Extremely simple to use. I have 2 sway bars off my JLURD and my 392, I think one of them even has longer endlinks from my metalcloack lift on my previous rig. Stop by if your ever in Vegas and you can have one of them.

On my first rig (JTM), I did have the apex which worked fine but did come loose every so often. Coulda shoulda used some blue loctite I guess.

I run disconnected around town all the time and love it. I call it urban wheeling. Mostly 25 - 35 mph. Interstate, windy roads at higher speeds, is definitely not something I'm comfortable with. No more laying on the ground with Apex lynx. 👍

I forget exactly what I paid for those rascals. I believe it was $450. I noticed they've gone up to $475. At the time I looked around for a rubi sway bar but couldn't find one locally or on the forum. I ended finding one on ebay. It was $500, plus shipping. Another $100 bones for EVO manual disconnect. I believe the rubi sway bar set up would have worked a little better with my factory wheels & skinny tires though. Fyi, Apex Lynx require a minimum of 4.5 BS.

I just reach over my tires to flip the Apex knobs, which takes maybe 10 seconds for both sides? One of my best purchases to date. Apex also offers discounts via GovX for first responders and military (I think it was around $425 shipped for my most recent pair).

Definitely pricey for sure, but aside from a push button for the Rubi sway bar disconnect, it's probably the quickest and easiest method.

I initially started playing around with sway bar disconnect options all the way back when I was at 20,000 miles, and then sometime before I hit 30,000 miles I ended up just completely taking them off (the end-links) and haven't looked back. I'm currently at just above 57,000 mi and haven't had sway bar end links in the front for almost 30,000 mi now. My daily drive is about 20 mi of which 19 of it is highway speeds. I've done a few evasive maneuvers in that time now without sway bars connected at high speeds and have had zero issues dodging anything. Right around 45,000 mi I completely removed the entire front sway bar not just the end links. Figured I wasn't going back anyways, why keep the extra weight. 🤷‍♂️

Beyond body roll it doesn't affect anything else. With what little I know about death wobble, there's an off chance it might affect death wobble, but it's going to be more related to other things then just the end links. Back in like June or July or something like that I removed my steering stabilizer when it was damaged and drove for about a week and a half before I got really bad death wobble and put it right back on that evening. But not having the end links didn't seem to matter. I'm currently running a Rough Country dual steering stabilizer and I've had quite a lot of luck with that running 37s.

Honestly I enjoy running without front sway bars, when I go off-roading only thing I got to worry about is airing down, and when I leave the park all I got to do is air up. Some people on here when I first said I was doing this got all uppity and started talking about how dangerous it was and how I was going to kill other people and how I'm selfish for this. They can all bite me (at this point)! 30,000 miles of proof that you don't need sway bars in the front to be a safe driver.

My favorite thing about not having them is that when I'm stuck in highway traffic or right around 30 mph, I have a dead man's knob on my steering wheel, and I like to use that to wobble and play with the body roll. Anything over 35 miles an hour, it gets a little sketchy and I wouldn't recommend it, but it seems anything under 25 mph and you don't have enough speed to get the most out of your missing end links.

I got a video over there on YouTube talking about it. But I got so many shorts on there, trying to find it is going to be hassle. I'll probably just film you a new video of the body roll when I get back to my Jeep.

I say screw everyone else, just cuz they don't have the balls to be able to handle it, doesn't mean you can't have fun with it!

I talked about it a little bit, got sidetracked a little bit, but overall you got potentially 9 minutes (3 minutes each video) where I try and show you the body roll that my Jeep has. :like:

@Tredsdert, the death wobble was my main concern. The body roll doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I just hate messing with them on and off the trail and I’ve been to lazy to reconnect them. I might do as you did and just remove the whole thing. I’m only at 6800 miles. If I have to take it to the stealership for any warranty work I’ll just slap it back on!
