Hunt CDJR in Franklin, Kentucky advertises "no fees" but not yet sure where they stand with actual sell prices/discount percentages.

Let me tell you my story…..

Had an ‘06 Toyota Corolla XRS for over 10 years while waiting for the 6th gen 4Runner. Had 217k miles so traded it in for my first adventure vehicle, a 2018 Subaru Outback Limited with the last of the 3.6. Had that bad mamma jamma while in WI, through the move to ID, and into CO. In ID I lifted it with a 2” spacer lift and put some (I think) 31s on it. Took it on some awesome adventures where we were the only vehicle and I started second guessing my choices. It was a great vehicle and served its purpose well. Subarus are the best vehicle in the snow hands down, that AWD is amazing.

Moved to CO and did a trail with some local overlandbound folks. Almost got struck trying to get up a hill on a mild trail. Guy up top Said, “I got a winch if we need it.” The 4Runner behind me was close and had to back up. I took 4 attempts and finally made it up. At that point I thought to myself, “okay, I’ve finally have reached the limits of this outback, time to look for a new vehicle.”

I started looking at 5th gen 4Runners, Tacomas (again, I didn’t like the power train previously and still didn’t like it so ruled that out), and a Wrangler. Toyota wouldn’t budge on price so I landed on a Jeep. Then I had to go back and forth between a Willy’s and a Rubicon. I was 100% set on a Willy’s because it has GREAT value and I told myself, my wife, and the sales guy, “I don’t want to do rock crawling, I’m not into that.” Ended up landing on a Rubicon and I couldn’t be happier. Ive used the lockers in some situations, front and rear, I always use the sway bar disconnects and like that it’s easy to just push a button.When I bought it, I thought, this Rubicon has the 13” ground clearance and 33s, exactly what I want! If I got the 4Runner, id have to do a bunch of modifications and void my warranty to get my 33s and the ground clearance (I believe the TRD of road was like 9.8”). Well, here I am a year after I picked up my JL from the dealer and I’ve got 37s, the Clayton lift in the garage being installed next weekend, steel bumpers, a winch, and I freaking LOVE Moab!

The moral of the story is don’t buy a Jeep, you’ll go broke. If you do buy one though, my vote is Rubicon, I’d definitely do it again!

Id also buy a Subaru again, I just wouldn’t lift it, gave me problems afterwards a little bit.

Totally get that going broke with a Jeep! Been doing the same with motorcycles. Now, I am considering that injury recovery takes longer and I should ease into an alternative vehicle for adventuring. Not ready to give up the bikes yet.

Have been to Moab three times myself. Last time was 2017 with the 690ER. It was late May/early June.

Here is a thread with a spreadsheet that you can build your Jeep with options and will give you Msrp and invoice pricing then on bottom it will allow you to choose which percentage off invoice and taxes added back in.

Rule No. 1 of owning a Jeep: the best dealer is the one you never have to talk to.

Here is a thread with a spreadsheet that you can build your Jeep with options and will give you Msrp and invoice pricing then on bottom it will allow you to choose which percentage off invoice and taxes added back in.

Thanks for confirming the dual batteries. Now, those make a case for the upgraded alternator that comes with the tow package.

The V6 with ESS (small motorcycle battery near the crank battery) is only available with the manual transmission. Every once in a while they will make it available for a short time with auto tranny but there is no rhyme or reason to when that happens.
If you plan on getting the V6 with the auto tranny, the eTorque is your only option.

jeep.com isn't always accurate, but it'll give you a really good idea about how you can spec your rig.

As a Willys owner I may be prejudiced in making my recommendation but I'd choose a Willys again.

Why? In addition to the comments made above, it fits your stated use case which is very similar to mine. Since I already had a use case planned which included frequent off-road travel I went ahead and added some accessories that I felt I would need.

You don't have to jump right into the mods as the Willys is very capable. I did some trail rides, one 1800+ mile road trip and quite a bit of local driving, then made my accessory choices almost a year after I purchased the JL.

Don't be afraid of going with the 2.0L Turbo & 8-spd automatic combination. It works great on the trails, the highway and around town. When driving at lower speeds around town I tend to use the transmission's manual mode.

Two options not committed to yet are soft/hard tops and auto/manual transmissions.

I use hearing protection while riding and suspect I'd do the same wheeling down a highway in a soft top.

A clutch in a pre-owned Wrangler is an unknown for me. I ran my '06 Frontier 6-speed manual for 11.5 years and over 165k and that clutch was still strong.

I totaled by bike many years ago. Kept the M endorsement because I always wanted to get another one. I think that time has come and gone though, I should stop paying the $20 or whatever it is to keep it.

So I located a Willys Sport with a manual transmission, well discounted, and advertised for about $33.5k. White with tan seating. It is about five and a half hours south around Montgomery, AL.

Aware of the stop sale order, I called the dealer anyway as I can wait for a fix. Turns out someone order that Wrangler and is waiting for the fix to take delivery.

Bummer for me. Search continues. In contact with Gupton and my local dealer.

Hard top and anti-spin options are a must.
