Asked jeep chat today about the painted top and he amailed me back this :

This is Andrew of Jeep Vehicle Care emailing in regards to your inquiry about the paint earlier. So from what we were able to find on our end,; the Sting-Gray is a late availability paint color (not a restriction). This exterior paint is slated to become available in mid-March for consumer ordering. With that being said, because this exterior paint is not yet available we cannot confirm if it will be offered with a body color top. Regrettably at the moment you will need to wait until it becomes available to confirm this. Thank you, Andrew, Jeep Vehicle Care

Doesn’t seem knowledgeable at all on the subject. I explained to him the color is indeed orderable currently, and he still responds with that. So let’s just keep checking the dealer order system daily and hope it comes available sooner then later.

Interesting post. My dealer said he tried to order my Sting Gray Rubicon today. but it wasn't avalable to order. Not sure if the matching top kicked the order out as unavailabe.

I ordered mine on 2/27 and already have a VIN as of today, but I ordered the black top and flares.

There might not be too many Sting Gray JL’s in Canada this year as the JL configurator just went live THIS week on Jeep.ca and Sting Gray is NOT listed as a colour at all!… it is available in the dealer’s build and order software, the graphic of the Jeep as built will not switch to a hardtop even when it is selected,I am pretty sure I can find a kid on my street who could code well enough to update that website correctly!!! )
Also I am sorry to say that the “Jeep cares” thing appears to be a total waste of time as we still know more than they do, and they appear to have zero access to anything deeper than what we already know thanks to @JLWF Dealer Guy and @JAY I am not sure if the management realize that a small and focused investment of just a few people could cover all the forums, they could offer special discounts or early access to MOPAR parts etc, they would build even more loyalty which is currently given IN SPITE of their lack of appreciation!…they are just patting people on the head and telling them to wait ,they could be giving us an inside pic at the production line(It’s just people building cars ,not a national secret!) or taking pics of people’s cars as they exit the factory or placing a personalized Jeep Cares sticker inside the glove box etc, it just takes a little bit of creative thinking to REALLY build the community which has to be the most passionate and loyal of any US brand,and for the only vehicle that really makes FCA money!…oh well!...looking forward to seeing the one on its way to California!...have a great weekend everyone..
