Seems like shifting into 4H is stiffer than I expected on 2022 JL with manual transmission. Does the transfer case smooth out with use?

The first time I shifted mine into 4H, I thought I was going to break the lever off. Now it goes in and out of 4H with a flip of the wrist, barely any effort at all. Today (on another thread), I worked on getting into 4L smoothly. A lot of scary grinds later and it is getting much easier.

2021 JL EcoDiesel with the auto tranny. 2H to 4H and back is very smooth. 4H to 4L and back is a bit of effort. I found rolling about 2 MPH, shift tranny into N and shifting transfer case with some force (but not too much force) can be done with not much gear grind. A few times the gear noise really had me worried but so far no ill effects. I seem to be shifting a little better with practice.

My jeep shifts into 4h and 4l easily. Smooth as butter. I have probably shifted the transfer case a couple thousand times though. It will improve the more you use it.

Yeah, 4L takes a TON of practice without it sounding like you're ripping the thing apart. I think it has to do with the fact that you're going down that low. If you miss it, it is a real high pitched grinding noise followed by a clunk. ? Not for the faint of heart.

This right here. The first time I tried to put it into 4wd, it was so stiff, I had to use two hands. Now, it is much easier to shift.

Shifting my manual JLUR in and out of 4 low never got easier over the 16 months that I had it. Took a significant amount of muscle.

Haven't tried other manuals, but have driven a few automatics that shifted in and out seamlessly.

My 20 was also stiff when new, no 2H to 4H is slick and smooth. Neutral and 2 Lo are also very smooth and easy IF you are stopped and the trans is in “N”(otherwise it’s almost impossible). I tow 4down behind the motorhome. Getting in and out of neutral is easy if you follow the right method.

after getting my wrangler last September I too thought I would break something , after reading a post on here about having to use it to loosen it I started going thru the 4H N 4L everytime I backed up my driveway . now it engages almost with fingertips
