My wife and I bought a new JLU in July and about a month ago we too experienced the "death wobble" when the tire hit a bump on the highway. Very scary but it went away if you hit the brakes. It started happening more and more so I took it into the dealership. They said it was a steering damper rod and the Jeep was not safe to drive. The dealership gave me a "18 Wrangler JK loaner to drive and said the parts would be in the next week. This morning the dealership called again and told me the Mopar rep said the parts would be on backorder until APRIL. Somehow our dealer got Mopar to send one out and it should be here in Maryland the first week of December. Sounds like more and more JL Wranglers are having this issue and dealers are scrambling for the parts.

I just ordered the Fox 2.0 stabilizer. If this is indeed the problem, which I believe it is, then the Fox should be more than enough to correct it. Quadratec has the best deal at 144 bucks, while everyone else is at about $160. I figure if it doesn't work, then I send it back and go with the new one from Jeep. My dealer said it could be as far out as April before the new stabilizer comes in, due to backorder. Quadratec says orders will ship December 7. We shall see.

I do like the adjustability of the Teraflex, but I just can't spend north of $300 right now.

Did you need any special tools that might not be found in the average tool box?
No special tools needed. Full disclosure... I have the Metalcloak track bar and didn’t need to move that to install. I can’t confirm if moving the OEM track bar is required. I didn’t want to mislead on that.

So the saga continues. Dealer had ha s the Jeep for 10 days and was working with Jeep to review “flight recorder” data.

Jeep came back with “its normal”. Bunch of BS. I asked if they checked the tires (meaning did the check balance etc) and they said the “looked at them” again did not actually do anything. SO FRUSTRATED.

Question for the group...

While at the dealership they said 4 people drove it. I just checked the mileage and they drive it 300 miles...it only had 2079 miles on it when I dropped it off. Doesn’t this seem extreem?

Mine didn't even drive it. They took the number off the stabilizer and immediately wrote up the ticket ordering the new part. Sounds like a bunch of ding bats at that dealership that don't stay up on their products. I feel lucky to have found a dealership that has competent people and they trust what I describe, too.

Update:
Service manager, Ralph, called me within 10 minutes of my text going to my salesman at Szott Chrysler Jeep in White Lake, MI. I was able to get there by 1:30 and he already had a 2D manual Sahara JK loaner reserved for me.
He confirmed the part is on backorder but another dealer had 5-6 in stock and was willing to send it over. He will also take care of any other outstanding issues like CC. Said my welds are okay.

So I recommend getting this checked out while some parts are still floating around to avoid having to wait for the back orders to clear. Will update again when completed.
Having same issue. JL, new in June, 6500 miles on it now. First noticed it Nov. 2 when I thought I got a flat tire (going 70MPH on freeway), I started to pull over and the wobble went away. It's happened numerous times since then, feels like it's getting worse. Happened today, worst wobble yet, going just 55MPH. I didn't slow down for about 5 seconds to see if the wobble would continue and it did...didn't stop till I took my foot off the gas. Will be calling dealer in AM - glad to see some here have found a fix. Hoping it's just that simple!

Is anyone really getting the wobble / shimmy when it is above 36 degrees?

I can reproduce it at will at a certain spot on the road when it is below ~36 degrees. When it is above, it feels loosish, but not a wobble.

The engineer in me is trying to narrow it down as I am pretty sure it is not mileage related (mine started at 10k -
mopar life put on at 1k in April) but that it is temperature related.

Are people seeing this in warmer climates as well?

My first occurrence was at 50 degrees and at 76mph.

Yes, mine started in September when it was in the mid 70s here. And it was not a small wobble but full death wobble when I hit a bump/pothole at any speed above 45 mph that required me to stop.

42 or so yesterday and I got it again and again, although it did not seem as bad as when colder. That wasn't a scientific analysis, though. It was more of a glutius maximus analysis.

Interesting. There goes my theory. Do you have a lift?
