A lift may exacerbate the problem, but the lift isn't always the root cause. Neither of mine that have started wobbling have had a lift or any mods. This also happened on my JK, but that was after a few years of components becoming worn. It definitely shouldn't be happening after only a few months.
Some owners experienced it very early and soon . That is why a test drive before delivery is important .

So, I have a 2018 Jeep JLU Sahara with 11XXX KM's on it, everything has been perfect, no recalls etc but for some reason when I hit a bump my steering wheel like shakes? It kinda feels like my tires went flat and have no air in it.

I'm new to anything really vehicle related so I was wondering if anyone may know the cause?

Edit: This only happens at highway speeds, and is bone stock.
Have them look at the steering stabilizer. That's what my dealer told me the problem was. They ordered a new one and it should be here in a few days.

I was experiencing the exact same problem.

@JeepCares I have an appointment at my local dealer for a severe wobble when hitting uneven pavement at highway speed. I will ask to have a test drive along with a dealer representative. Any help you could provide before or after the appointment would be greatly appreciated. I still love my JLU!

edit.. see thread post #27
I just got a call from my dealer. They were able to duplicate the steering/vehicle wobble that Iā€™ve been experiencing. They called FCA to report the issue and were advised to install a ā€œsteering dampenerā€, which is now on a 1-2 week back order.
Hi Oldtimer,
We're glad to see that your dealer was able to duplicate your concern. Please sent us a private message and we would be happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sorry for the long post and poor grammar Iā€™m sure but I wanted to share my first hand experience.

Hello everyone. Iā€™ve been a member since very early on as I was the guy who received one of the first supposed JL hoods from a recycling yards but this is one of my first posts here. Now back to business. I work on JLs for a living and own one. We currently have 3 JLs in the shop with death wobble and Iā€™m personally working on all 3. The first one has been aligned 3 times, tire pressures played with, tires rotated, front end has been gone over multiple times with zero issues found. Iā€™ve replaced the steering box with an updated part, TRE at the steering box, replaced the trac bar to the updated part. None of which made a difference. Oh did I mention all of these have the mopar 2 in lift installed by me. Iā€™ve been in contact with Star and more recently the design engineer for the mopar 2 in lift at FCA. Weā€™ve been working together to get these jeeps fixed. Since talking to him we both agreed to replace the trac bar with an aftermarket option and it made a huge difference in that it turned full on death wobble to a slight steering wheel shimmy now. With that being said I still wasnā€™t happy with any steering wheel movement so I removed the steering stab shock (damper) and checked it not thinking there was any possibility it could be bad as the jeep has 6k miles. Sure enough the damper was bad. Pulled one out of a new car and boom 100% fixed. Here lies the next issue the oem AD part number is on BO until February. So we are headed down the aftermarket road to get these jeeps back on the road. We ordered the mopar/fox damper from the JK 4in lift as they are reasonably available and should be in Wednesday next week.

Went to the appointment, they're ordering a new steering stabalizer/steady shock they believe that was the issue, should be in sometime this week hopefully and i'll see if it fixes the issue, on the other hand I went to get an oil change and they said my rear diff oil was very black for 12XXX Km, do you happen to know if the oil you guys are using just tends to be black or is this an issue?

Any updates?
read above.

I assume the damper you're speaking about is also known as a steady shock, or steering stabalizer? thats what my dealer thinks, and you might have some more insight on another issue I just was told about, my rear diff oil is apparently really black (I went for an oil change and they checked out the under carriage etc and thats what they said) but it could just be the fact they're using new oil and it just tends to be really black, theres only 12000KM on it, 90% of it is highway. They told me to take it in to the dealership to be sure.

Why is it that steering was not a problem on previous models ? Why is the steering problem only on this model ?
The wrangler is really known for the death wobble, its just the design and engineering of the build - I wish they would find a permenant fix for future models though.

Thanks for this information!

So there is an updated steering stabilizer with AC part # from FCA?
I found the AB Steering damper on mopar website.

You also stated updated track bar in your post. Is there also an updated track bar from FCA or were you referring to an aftermarket track bar?

Also, is it not necessary to install a longer track bar when installing a 2ā€ lift? I would think the stock track bar length would cause the axles to be offset after installing the lift.

mine turned out to be loose bolts on the steering stabilizer, I tightened them up and its back to normal.

Stopped by the dealership today and showed them the teraflex adjustable steering damper and told them Iā€™m willing to go halfā€™s on that with them to get my Jeep back. Hopefully we can work something out soon. It really sux to be paying 808 dollars a month and not being able to drive my new rubicon.
