Steering stabilizer?

I have a 2018 Sahara with 315/70r17

today is the first time I drove it in the hard rain and I hit a bigger puddle in the turn lane and the steering was all over. I never really had this happen with the stock tires.

but an upgraded steering stabilizer help this issue? or is there something else I should look at. It was actually kinda scary.

Larger tires are heavier, they magnify the effects of bump steer, over a lighter stock tire. A steering stabilizer probably won’t help much.

How fast were you going ? Sounds like you hydroplaned.

It may have been..but felt different with the bigger tires. Maybe 40mph.

To clarify, it pulled you or you lost steering control?

You are moving more water with the bigger tires, it will tend to pull toward the tire that is pushing the water.

That is a known effect of wider tires, and 315 is a very wide tire compared to stock -- I think each tire is 2 inches wider. Water can't work its way to the edges as easily. It's a downside you'll have to live with.

It happens. Actually a good reminder now that the rains are upon us to slow down especially when driving in pooled water.

Upgrade your track bar to an HD one. Draglink and tie rod should be on your list too, but definitely the track bar. Otherwise, death wobble will be in your future. Bigger tires need better steering components. The factory components are barely adequate. A steering stabilizer will mask it for awhile.

I installed the Fox 2.0 ATS stabilizer and set the adjustment for my drive at around 17 clicks ! It’s helps a lot !! I also added a JKS track bar which makes the Drive excellent in my op.
