Steering Stabilizer

Hi everyone,

I was one of the unfortunate ones who bought a 2018 JL (first year of the JL) which had the faulty steering stabilizer which went through several iterations before they finally made a version that stopped shimmy/death wobble. At that time, it was clear they were in the process of correcting the issue and many of us bought the Fox or TeraFlex stabilizers, which did in fact stop the shimmy/death wobble.

Fast forward to today, I've bought at 2024 JL Sport and the steering seems much more stiff than my 2018 when I first bought it. I am wondering if the steering stabilizer issue has been fixed or if there are still issues and I should by the same TeraFlex I have in my 2018 to ensure I don't get shimmy or death wobble in my new 2024. Thanks!

You shouldn’t get death wobble regardless of what stabilizer you have. A stabilizer is not a fix for DW, it is a band-aid. I also wouldn’t touch the factory one unless switching to heavy 35s or 37s. Only reason I got one on my JTOD was 37s have way more weight… plus I wanted to look cool and have a screen door closer branded the same as my shocks ?‍

Or replace if you take it off road and bang it up because of the dumb placement below the tierod?!?!?! Why they move it from the JK location?

Steering stabilizers do not prevent or stop death wobble. They just attempt to stabilize it and get destroyed in the process.

DW is caused by other loose steering or suspension components which must be fixed before installing a new steering stabilizer.

The only reason for an improved SS is to handle extra large and heavy tires. (37s and up)
