I installed the apex steering boost kit with their cooler. Everything went well and the cooler fits fine since mine is a sport without swaybar disco motor in the way.

However, the pump started to make slight whining noise under load. I wondered if I didn't bleed the system completely, so I tried to bled it again today.. engine off, tires off the ground, open the reservoir cap, turn the wheel back and forth, lock to lock.. I didn't see bubbles coming out and the fluid level stays pretty much the same level. Engine running and do it again.. the whining sound does not go away.

What could be the issue? Does the electrical pump require a different bleeding method?

They’re just noisy. Yours is a little louder than most but it may just be the recording.

It started to make that noise after I installed the kit. It almost sounds worse from the inside of the Jeep than it does from the outside.

@apexdesignsusa (Vendor) called and helped with troubleshooting. The guy told me they have had a couple of cases like mine. Aside from making sure all air is out of the system and no leaks, they do not have a solution.

I have only driven the Jeep about 30 miles since then. I will keep my eye on it and see if it would go away. Its annoying hearing that under 5 mph, after that I dont hear it.

Do you also have the boost kit installed? Or the pump is loud from the factory?

I have the full kit. I gave up on bleeding it after about an hour of doing the bleeding procedure.

I might try vacuum bleeding it.

And mine..

It kind of hums gently when stock.

I suspect the extra pressure causes it to raise the pitch of the hum into a squeel..

PSC have a "ported" and "calibrated" pump with built in 1800psi. I'm guessing the porting helps.

But, yeah it costs like $1100 instead of $160 or whatever for the valve from apex..

They also have an upgraded box with larger sector shaft, pitman arm etc.. Whole lot is like $3600..

Will be watching for reviews of the whole kit to see feedback.
