My new Sport S JL, manufactured in 4/19, has the steering bug, no doubt about it. A couple of members have posted that their JL steering issues, very pronounced when the vehicle was brand new, have improved or disappeared after putting a 1000 or so miles on the Jeep, and without any interventions like alignment, excess tire pressure reduction, steering stabilizers, etc. Before I take my Wrangler back to the dealer, Iā€™d be interested to know if more Wrangler owners who had the steering issues when the vehicle was brand new have found that their Wranglers are steering more normal once the vehicle has been broken in.

Mine was real rough for the first 1000 or so. After 5000 it was completely gone.

Both my 2018 JLR/JKS were very hard to steer STRAIGHT for the first 5 miles--

Then I dropped the tire air pressure from 44 psi to 30 psi(JLR and 44 psi to 36 psi (JLS) and BINGO

No steering problem !

I have had my 2019 JLU for about 6 months now. IMO, when i first really started to drive the Jeep i felt like the steering was all over the place. ( Compared to my last vehicle). I now have about 6k on it and i think you honestly just get use to it. I don't feel nearly as much play any longer. It may be " break in " period however i really think you just get use to it and how it handles over time.

I echo these comments although mine only took about 900 miles. Before that, I felt there was a lot of play in the steering wheel. Now its perfect.

Our JL is 9 months old with 19000 miles and itā€™s starting to wander more when the outside temps are in the 90ā€™ s. It takes close to an inch of movement in the steering wheel before you get any response.
We just did a 6200 mile road trip and it was fine but now weā€™re back home in the heat it is back and forth going down the road.

My dealer's service department was surprisingly unaware of any issue with 2018/19 Wrangler JL steering issues. Several folks on this forum seem to have run into the same dealer response. Until FCA acknowledges this problem with the JL Wrangler and provides their dealers' service departments with a specific and comprehensive fix for it, I see no reason to seek a remedy at the dealer at this time. It should not be up to the customer to have to make a case with the service manager that this problem exists. Until FCA forcefully gets the word out to their service people identifying the cause of the problem and an effective solution, I will make more effective use of my time trying to inform prospective buyers of new Wranglers to carefully evaluate the steering behavior of any new Wrangler they plan to purchase.

After repeated trips to the dealer, my JL Rubicon still steers itself. Jeep Cares said they support the dealer and no further action will be taken. Since all my previous Jeeps were bought "pre-owned", I always expected to replace parts. Kind of irritating to be forced to install parts on a new vehicle. At this point, I still like the vehicle, but it no longer carries any significance. In other words, now it's just a car.

Shit steering from start on 2019. Continued to worsen until I got the updated track bar and steering stabilizer at 7k which helped but hasn't solved all the issues. Will be having a jeep tech with me on a ride along in upcoming weeks so they can solve.

2018 jlu was worse.

5600 miles and still drives like a Walmart shopping cart, I think Iā€™ll order a hood decal with a wobbly shopping cart on it.
Itā€™s better then it was before 4 trips to the dealer, but now mediocre at best. I would recommend anyone buying a JL to take a 1/2 hour test drive before buying. Donā€™t expect any help from Jeep dealer t this point. The problem takes the enjoyment out of driving.

I'm taking my 18 Sport in this Saturday for the first of, I can only assume, several trips to the dealer, to get this steering issue resolve. It has steadily gone from annoying to dangerous at times.
