Steel Bumpers

I ordered the steel bumper group. I may change it out eventually, but I won't feel like I am in a rush to do so. I wasn't in love with anything I saw prior to ordering, and the JL being relatively new to market, means some manufacturers are still developing products, or still working the kinks out (rear back up sensors may be an issue for some). I also thought I read that people are having trouble fitting a spare 35" tire with the plastic rear bumper, where the steel may have less issues with a 35" tire.

I will definitely be getting after market bumpers. Is there any reason to order the steel bumpers on a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon? Do they come with any other upgrade that would be worthwhile?

Going back to your question, if you plan on going after market bumpers there is nothing that you get in the steel bumper group that you get beyond the bumpers and force you to take the led package.


As for other unrelated conversion going in this thread, the steel front bumper is winch "capable" after you buy a mounting plate. Most aftermarket bumpers that are winch ready and the winch mounting plate welded together with rest of the bumper. There are some bumpers that sell the fairlead mount as a add on, even rarer they will sell it like Jeep bumper does a add on plate you need I think the only one like this is the rugged ridge bumper

I don't think you know what you're talking about at all. The Mopar offering is more expensive because it's from Mopar, all of their stuff is overpriced. The plate is not included with the Mopar bumper because they want to charge you even more for less material.

You may be thinking of a fairlead and thats why you think you are correct, because yes all bumpers need a fairlead if you install a winch, but no not all bumpers need a winch mounting plate.

If fact, the mopar steel bumper is one of the only few ones that require an extra mounting plate.

Anyways OP, check out different manufactures like poison spyder, LOD, and other higher end manufactures. They all make HD trail ready steel bumpers cheaper than Mopar steel bumpers. There are some threads here at this link that will help your decision, or make it harder to choose because there are alot of quality options.

No...many are built with the stnd bolt pattern (10.5 x 4.5" ) already built in.

No, it's not "winch ready" if you still have to install said plate AND spend another $250.

I think I have less than $40 in mine (mostly the cost of new bolts) and it's about 5 5/8" from the front of the grill to the leading edge of the bumper.

It's not "impossible" to buy one cheaper or better. There are plenty of options in that price range and even more if you build one yourself.

I totally agree on building one yourself if you know what your doing.

If done right wont be cheap though.

It's not cheap in terms of labor for sure....and maybe that's what you're referring to.

I cut 6.5" of frame off the front of the chassis and ended up re-working the electronic sway bar motor and A/C lines to get it where I wanted it. I think I had about 70 hours in it when all was said and done, but you can't buy a bolt-on bumper that allows the fronts of the tires to be at the very front edge of the taper on the bumper, nor can you get one with that short of an approach on the front leading edge. If you want the best approach angle, a fair amount of cutting of the frame and fab work has to be done....and that's just something the aftermarket nor Mopar is going to offer.
