On the flip side, moving parts need to move once in awhile to keep them lubricated and fabric needs to stretch out once in awhile to prevent the creases from becoming permanent and brittle at the crease. If it is kept open at home but closed while at work or the mall parking lot, maybe that is the compromise. There's one significant reason to leave it open in the garage. They have moving parts and motors that wear out. Like anything relatively delicate and mechanical, there's a limited number of times you can use it before it breaks. It'll cost ~$1.5k to ~$4.k if that failure isn't covered by your warranty.
Ours cost $1.5k to initially fix. The dealership "fixed" it, but it was much worse when we got it back. They basically had to replace the whole thing and wanted to charge an additional $3k. It took lots and lots of emails (so everything was recorded) to finally get them to cave and pay for it themselves.
