This is EXACTLY why I bought my Rubi "X". 35's and 4.56's from the factory.

I was under the impression that the combo was pretty bad and people were always on the bump stops when on the trail, but maybe not?

Update, tech got back to me and basically confirmed changing gears is no longer an option. He and another tech argued with Chrysler that it definitely was an option before, and said they acted like they were from another planet. He said they are waiting to hear back as to why and if there is a workaround. I mean at this point I'm just waiting on Amazon so I can use Jscan to do it, but, still good for them to figure it out since I'm not the first nor the last person to ask them to do this.
Gear ratios may be part of the emissions certification thus changes are not allowed.

I've hit the bump stops once or twice in the year I've had the rubi X. We've got a few of Rubicon X's in our 4x4 club. I 'think' it comes down to: if you want the baddest rig to to run level 8,9 or 10 trails, build it yourself. If you want something that will do 'most' anything, the X is a great factory package.

My X goes where the build it guys go, but I still have a full warranty. That said in another 10000 miles I may look into shocks and changing out the bump stops.

When I ordered mine (Aug 23), it was the only way to get the painted top and fenders, leather seats and power seats. In addition you got the 35's, 4.56 gears, steel bumpers, spare tire reinforcement, factory 1.5 inch lift, and possibly some other stuff. At that time it seemed like the best / easiest way to get what I wanted with the least amount of aggravation.

Update!!

Recap: did a regear over the weekend, had a clutch recall done months ago, and currently was in limp mode, Serv trans error, and clutch hot error, after regear. Jeep was hauled to the dealer thinking they could reprogram for gears, they can't anymore.

ordered stuff to use for Jscan, Sat with tech while I used Jscan to set gears (dealership set tires prior to, no charge) and cleared errors, tried to drive, went back into limp mode etc... Couldn't even drive enough to do the 6th gear relearn. Limped back to dealer, tech cleared codes, and did whatever SB########000005, test drive, same issue. Limped back, cleared codes, disconnected both batteries, waited a few minutes, then hooked up, then drove with no errors. Then was able to do the 6th gear clutch relearn (drive 40-80mph in 6th gear for 30 seconds) No issues. Drove some extra time. So far so good.

General forum consensus was after regear/tires, jscan or razer should solve any computer angriness. It was also necessary to do a battery disconnect, clutch relearn, and go. This seems to have solved my issues for now.

In regards to the recall, immediately after it was done, I continually kept getting intermittent service transmission errors, but no limp mode, and no codes, and no altered driveability. I wonder if a battery disconnect all that time ago would have remedied that. They could never figure it out and assumed it was tire size needing programming, but I only had 33s on at the time, and had them prior to recall, no issues. So anyway, end of the saga I hope.

Another manual jeep drama thread?!

@JAY. Can we just remove these manual owners from the forum and give them their own site for all this nonsense?
But then where would all the automatic owners go to try to figure out why they're not experiencing the same thing when changing tire size / gear ratio??

The manual in my 2020 was pretty damn bad (IMO). It's shocking that the issues have simply blown up over the years since then.

Once you get this squared away I'd love your thoughts on the 4.56. That's in my plan on my manual JLU Sport as well.
So far, I love the gearing. I'm glad I did not go 4.88... where I live is mostly flat, but I do wheel it in the mountains and we vacation there also, and it's not a far drive to get to those places, Uwharrie is a day trip for us... 4.88 would have been too much for me for predominantly a daily driver at 98ft above sea level. Also, although we are in town, there is a lot of highway here to get from place to place. I am regularly doing 60-70mph.

I now have more use of 5th and 6th, more pull in 5th on the highway to where I'm not downshifting to get up the tiniest hill. Yes these engines like to be higher in the power band, but even with that in mind 3.45 gears are ass. They were tolerable on 33s where regear was a fun idea to get around to sometime, on 35s it was a must do asap. Again, I was okay driving around town, but any elevation, and regear was an obvious performance requirement. Even drives to the hillier areas just outside of my area would leave one desiring at least 4.10 gears of on 35s.

My 35s measure 35.2, so if I ever put a slightly smaller tire on here performance will still be happy. I'm seeing a slow increase in average mpg (based off of the dash) the more I drive it. I'm not gonna bother doing the real math on that because I don't care 😆 but fwiw, I was averaging between 14-14.7 in town before, and a short drive today in my typical driving style I was at 15.8. Would've gone up if I was on the road longer. I literally just got my jeep back yesterday so it's still adapting and mathing.

So basically I love the 4.56/35s and have no regrets. If you're someone who plans on running 37s or you live in the Rockies or do serious rock crawling, I'd say 4.88s on 35/37. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

The 8 speeds didn't get the garbage software update they pushed onto the manuals.
For the record, my 2020 clutch was a learning curve, but worked flawlessly for 4 years when I traded in.
