I have a DJI Mini SE because I was a cheap ass. It doesn't have all the sensors and AI flight features that the more expensive models do, but it's a good entry point if you don't know yet if you really want to pursue the hobby. I'm glad I have it but I went down the rabbit hole and discovered that my true drone passion is in the FPV side of it.

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet is I'd try to stay under .55 lbs (250g). Regulations keep tightening around the drone world and if you're under that magic number it allows you to bypass a lot of them. Happy flying and don't do anything to ruin it for the rest of us! :D
More good things information. Thank you.
this is exactly why I asked here.

Until very recently I flew a DJI Mini (the original / MK1), I upgraded to a Mini 4 Pro.
The 4 is a much better piece of kit in all but one regard. The collision avoidance is great unless flying in snow, then it suspects the whole world is trying to kill it and just hovers in fear…there is a way to turn that off however.

I’ve flown drones since we were strapping original GoPro Heros to them with Velcro and duct tape.
The absolute best, most intuitive, most idiot proof, easy to fly and easy to learn drone available at the moment is the DJI Mini 4 Pro.
And when I say idiot proof, I’m including myself.

Worth every penny

The drone? No way. Look at everything it does, the specs on the camera and the flight time.
Are there cheaper alternatives? Of course. Do those alternatives perform as well as the Mini 4 Pro? They do not.

My wife remembered me mentioning it would be "cool to have a drone" and some of the stuff I could do like checking rain gutters, looking over storm damage, or just getting neat photos and so on.
So last November she talked to a friend of hers who then called her son - into all kinds of outdoors stuff. Her son had a friend really into drones. So they got their heads together and I ended up with a DJI mini 3 pro for Christmas. Not bad for a wife who can't even program our Tablo to do anything with computers but use them for word processing or simple spreadsheet stuff (but she's sure a whiz at her CNC Intelliquilter quilting machine. She even hates shopping. )

My lady is interested in maybe getting a drone and elevate her adventure videos (pun intended).
I’m curious to see what everyone is flying out on the trails and what the members recommend.
whatcha got?

I have the mavic pro 3 and a custom one I’ve built. They are all great

I had never owned or flown or even handled a drone. I'm 66, essential tremors in right hand and arthritis, and my hands have survived many injuries as a mechanic, including finding out what a spinning table saw blade feels like. The shots I posted - it was 25-30 degrees out, no gloves, COLD hands and I got it figured out enough for some simple "test shots" to see how easy it was.
My biggest thing is I have to fold it up and put it away in a drawer and not leave it laying around or I'd find it in with the rest of the cat toys - one of them would claim it as their own.
I'm pure novice with 'em, know extremely little and getting the shots most are after totally messes with me - even though I could work magic with a Cisco ASA or Juniper core switch and set up massive VPN systems - this thing baffles me as far as how to use it to get the sort of shots where it will follow and do the fancy stuff.

Tbh, I love my DJI mavic mini. I picked it up new, unused, for $200 from a coworker. Great starter drone to play with and still get great quality for cheap.
Here’s a snippet from 5 minute clip that was filmed by a 5 year old the first time touching a drone/flying apparatus.

btw: how can I upload larger files easily. I will search later, too lazy now. Lol. Thanks

Another Mini 4 Pro vote. Love mine! I did fly a friends FPV drone with the goggles, and I had to sit to keep from falling over. That is a weird sensation.

been flying DJI drones for a while now, I started with the Phantom 4 Pro and picked up a Mini 4 Pro (in the pic have both in the air taking a pic of the Phantom with the Mini lol!). As others say the Mini 4 is fool proof for the most part and will do its best to avoid obstacles (in day light) and keep going where the Phantom will just stop and not move.

I like the Phantom as its a much bigger drone and easier to see in the air, but the Mini is so portable that you will always have it with you.

I recommend checking the drone maps in your area, as there are a lot more restrictions on where you can fly, when I got the Phantom you could almost fly anywhere without a hassle. My Phantom is not forced to do the updates so I can still pretty much fly it anywhere, whereas the mini 4 is limited. YMMV....

I bought a DJI Mini 2 a few years ago. It was easy to learn on. The “fly more” bundles they offer with the extra batteries are worth it. I picked up a few lens filters on Amazon a few weeks ago. Haven’t had a chance to try them yet.
