My lady is interested in maybe getting a drone and elevate her adventure videos (pun intended).
I’m curious to see what everyone is flying out on the trails and what the members recommend.
whatcha got?

I’ve flown drones since we were strapping original GoPro Heros to them with Velcro and duct tape.
The absolute best, most intuitive, most idiot proof, easy to fly and easy to learn drone available at the moment is the DJI Mini 4 Pro.
And when I say idiot proof, I’m including myself.

It really is. If you crash this it’s because you seriously screwed up.
I flew it in 20+ mph winds around a lighthouse for some stills and video. You’d never know it was windy. Rock solid in the air, flew the route I programmed and returned to home (my Jeep hardtop) without issue.

Edit - added the picture from the Mini 4 Pro.
If you zoom into the parking lot, over at the left there’s a lone Jeep. That’s where I was flying from. This shot was taken over the Atlantic looking back at the lighthouse.

We are looking to get some epic follow me and those cool zoom away shots. My lady spends hours editing trip video to post 30 second reels. If she wants to buy a cool drone to play with, you bet your ass I’m going to jump on it before she changes her mind.

I picked up a used DJI Mini 2, it's freaking amazing. 2 tips though. 1 - make sure everything is working before you get out of cell/data service. 1-a, Android/Apple updates can F-up the DJI software, it's not a bad idea to have an old phone set up ready to go. 2 - learn how to re-calibrate the GPS if you're traveling longish distance, it will get confused if it wakes up several hundred miles from where it was used last. I totally screwed up not one but two super cool trips for these reasons.

I have a DJI Mini SE because I was a cheap ass. It doesn't have all the sensors and AI flight features that the more expensive models do, but it's a good entry point if you don't know yet if you really want to pursue the hobby. I'm glad I have it but I went down the rabbit hole and discovered that my true drone passion is in the FPV side of it.

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet is I'd try to stay under .55 lbs (250g). Regulations keep tightening around the drone world and if you're under that magic number it allows you to bypass a lot of them. Happy flying and don't do anything to ruin it for the rest of us! :D
