Hi there,
Like many of you, I have had my issues with battery drain, replacing batteries, aux batteries, etc.. My JLUR is just not driven enough to keep the batteries charged. Its been recommended to use a battery tender but if I have to hook up AC power to the JEEP why not do some other things with it:

1. Charge my main and aux battery (power a tender)
2. Ability to keep my Goal Zero topped off
3. Ability to keep the drinks in the frig cold.
4. Convenience of not having to run multiple extension cords to the hood and side window to power things

So I am wondering if anyone has opted to put a shore power connector on the side of their JEEP and if so where and if so what did you use and what does it look like.

I thought it might be neat to use a 4xe charging door and put the port inside that so I didn't have this big typical RV-looking port stuck on the side of the jeep.
I am sure I could wire something up and leave it inside the cab but leaving the windows cracked out here in the desert is just inviting a bunch of dust and critters to be visiting the inside so hoping someone has done a great conversion out there.

If not, I might add another fuel door if my first idea doesn't work out....hmm.

It’s defiantly a doable thing, although i don’t know if you could retrofit a 4xe cover easily to do it. They make shore power outlets for RVs and trailers that could be used but would be a permanent installation.

Just curious, have you considered a dual battery kit? Ours does well with minimal driving and keeps a fridge going 24x7

someone did this with the 4Xe cover. i think they posted in it in the what did you do TO your jeep thread, my guess would be 3 or 4 months back.

Definitely doable but the 4xe port may be difficult to convert as it's a completely different plug. Look into marine thru-hull connectors for a generic solution.

Ha, as I read your post my first thought was 4xe charge port. Someone used one to install an air hookup if you can find one.

Another though, that’s likely easier and cheaper, tons of stock trucks that tuck a female plug at the grill for block heaters.

I ordered my Rubicon with the tow package. I wired a Battery Tender into a trailer style tow plug and just plug into my factory receptacle. Works great to keep the main and aux batteries topped off and I don't have any extra wires or plugs hanging down.

One could probably do something similar to power multiple items while parked.

I think it'd be a matter of using the location and factory door, removing the 4xe plug entirely inside and mounting the shore power plug inside.

Was thinking the same thing but its a male plug behind the door, which is what you want.

thank you all for your great replies. Lots of great ideas. The 4XE charge door and stuff are a bit pricy but I think it will look the best and be convenient for what i need. Going to give it a shot at least. Thank you all again for the great information.

Lol, yes. Must have been thinking a male plug that identified as female.
