Service DEF system

Our new to us 2022 just popped this message. Ultimate fixes/repairs? Also It's been a while so I very well may be misremembering, but I recall there was a DEF gauge that I could access somewhere. I went through all the screens (seemingly) and I don't see one.

And the DEF cap at the fill tank is a plug instead of an outer cap. I recall it being a cap that would click when closed? But I could be thinking of my other diesel vehicles...

I believe it’s under menu #2 but it’s the same one you can scroll left or right to see tire pressure, temp gauges, oil pressure, etc. Fingers crossed I don’t have to learn what the repair is.

Recently changed my usage/ storage of DEF fluid. Learned that the headspace that I was maintaining by keeping low volume 1/2 tank or < of fresh DEF could be actually causing crystallization. Recently learned more about DEF and the fundamental characteristics it has. Being from an extremely hot climate my focus was on preventing crystallization of the DEF fluid in my tank and def system. After speaking to one of the engineers at Rislone. I have changed and added a solution that should prevent crystallization and preserve itself while being stored. My 2020 EcoDiesel never consumed a lot of DEF fluid. It being a recreational vehicle and not a daily driver the def fluid I bought and used could not only expire but breakdown due to the high temperatures in my garage.

I have lived out of my Jeep traveling for a year and a half straight at one point, and I stay up on my maintenance. To keep my DEF system going strong, I use 2.5 gallons of DEF Blue Platinum every other DEF fill-up, and for the rest, I use the DEF at the truck stop. I have no crystallization in my system at all.

I also except for my first 5 gallon Mopar DEF fluid purchase. Only and exclusively have used the Platinum version of Blue Def. Most importantly the characteristics with all def. I follow the storage guidelines and watch the date both of which will give you an expiration date.

I don't think I'll ever get over how dumb these date codes are. I have always suspected they made it so in hopes that people won't pay attention. As in if everyone knew this stuff went bad they'd have more trouble selling it.

I just got the warning and dropped half a bottle of that in my DEF tank and the other half in hers.

Like I mentioned I've used Platinum Blue Def since the beginning. Never had an issue. With my extreme heat there's still a likelihood of crystallization. Just started using the def additive along with the Platinum. It's redundant and overkill but the engineer over at Rislone said it would be a sure way preventing problems. The deionized water in the def has a very high probability of evaporating while sitting in the tank inside my 100° plus summer garage. (Not daily driver) I watch how fast my dog's large water bowl inside the garage evaporates within just a week. It's not rocket scientist. The comments from many commercial and personal diesel def users in the video below says alot from experience not opinion or feelings.

And the light went out. 70k in the first 26 months and now that I don’t DD it as. Much only 5000 miles since May. Picked up a bottle of the Rislone DEF treatment today and will be adding that to every DEF fill.

Did anyone who got the service Def error actually read the code? I got the error this weekend with 12k. Going to try try a bottle of rislone and a jug of peak blue platinum this afternoon.

The code that gave me the "Service DEF - See Dealer" screen was originally a P206D, but now, it is a P2BA9 also.

The dealer said it's most likely the sensor in the tank (and requires a new tank as the sensor is not serviceable), but I won't know until my appointment later this month.

Ok thanks. I have a P20E9 code. Well see if it clears up when i drive it again in an hour.

Code was cleared, check engine light was off when i left yesterday. I got the DEF system error message at startup and then it went right away. Im pretty convinced that this was just an issue of cold temps but put in a container of Platinum Blue DEF to help clean it out just in case.

California desert, Follow the same protocol. Seldom fill past half. Funny how anti diesel Wrangler people complain so much about def. It's a national diesel thing on all modern diesels.
Commercial operators seem to have manage and have accepted the change. But some Wrangler folks seem self entitled.

Not sure if it's self entitlement; just complaining because it's a useless, overly complex and unreliable addition to what should be reliable and simple. An uncorked motor is so much happier.
