Took it in for routine maintenance before we head to Breckenridge for a week and the day before I took it in the light came on (Service 4WD) and then it came off then this morning it came back on again. Dealership said it's a valid transfer case and or sensor problem....I'll post more once I hear from the stealership.

While on a recent snow run I noticed my Service 4WD light come on too. It seemed to come on after about 30 minutes in 4HI. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off and then back on and the light went out. It reappeared again while rolling and shifting the transfer case from 4HI to 4LO, I think this was my fault though as it seems like the transfer case wasn't fully engaged into 4LO probably (not exactly sure how this would trigger a the Service 4WD light)... Again, after I pulled over and turned off the vehicle it went out on restart.

The whole rest of the trip the light did not come back on at all. I mainly was in 4HI and only used 4LO for about 5 min though.

I have a oil change at the dealer scheduled soon, will ask them to check for stored codes and report back if they find anything interesting.

I got an “Service 4WD System” message this morning but no light. Just a message, which was nothing more than the usual good morning stuff you see on the screen while the Jeep is starting up. It went away once all the usual lights and whatnot went back to the normal dash. Uconnect also didn’t pick anything up, and there are no messages in my stored messages. If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have known it happened.

Update: The Service 4WD System light usually goes out when I restart and later comes back on. The latest is that the warning light is off but now the 2H indicator is flickering on and off.

I’ll try 4WD today and see if it’s working normally and then take it to the dealer.

Does anyone know if the warning light needs to be on for the dealer to diagnose the problem? Or is there a code they can access even if the warning light is off?

Mine came on three times in the same morning, then not again at all. This seems to be a theme with issues on my Jeep. Lots and lots of "one time concerns".

Mine came on with the 2h also flicking. Only happened once when low fuel light was on. After refueling, everything was fine.

My Service 4WD System light came on yesterday while in NH at the "Creepy Crawl". I turned the Jeep off and it went out. I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow and see what they have to say. It hasn't come back on but I don't want to run into a problem when I need the 4wd. FYI 2020 Rubicon with 4200miles.

Hi @AlamedaJeep,

We're sorry to hear that you have concerns with the 4WD system in your Jeep. If you would like additional support while at the dealer, please let us know and we can certainly have a case escalated on your behalf.

Has there been a solution to this warning light? Mine came on yesterday but went out when I shut the Jeep off and then restarted the Jeep. 2020 Rubicon 4200 miles

After my incident, I noticed that the connector at the electric swaybar up front could allow water to get in during wet conditions. I sealed it up good after, and have not this problem since. Not sure if this or the transfer case switch is the more likely culprit, but with electronics, wire hanesses, connectors and grounding can all be issues during wet conditions.

Thank you for alerting us of this concern. Please let us know if the warning light returns. We can certainly look into any applicable Service Bulletins for your vehicle.

2020 jiu willy's and SERV 4WD light came on sporadically around 2000 miles. Never put it in 4WD. So far just dirt road driving. Took to dealer and replaced transfer case module. Still not fixed and is back at dealer now. Dealer said they are working with STAR engineer. 4WD works according to dealer but doesn't indicate that it's in 4WD on dash. SERV 4WD light stays on all time now. Hope they can fix this. Any tips are greatly appreciated as this is my first Jeep.

My new Jeep still at dealership shop going on a month now. After trying new fixes upon consultations with "STAR engineers", still can't get SERV 4WD light to go off. I'm keeping faith with dealerships service center though. Dealership going to replace wiring harness now and see if that works. Never had this experience with another vehicle. Will follow up here when or if a fix is found. New Jeep Wrangler Willys shouldn't be in this situation.

My Service 4WD System light came on yesterday while my Sahara was in 4WD Auto mode. The vehicle was still in my garage when it happened so I immediately got underneath, and checked Transfer Case connector as well as everything else. Nothing unusual found - all in pristine condition. Once I restarted the engine, the warning light came off. I should have inspected the Jeep at the dealer but I zero confidence in my local dealership ( they screwed up twice with one of the recall, and a simple maintenance).

So. I know this old thread but I had same issue with “serv 4wd” light that came on just on my way home. First time since purchasing my jeep last summer that I drove with 4wd since we just got hit with a bunch of snow in Illinois. I checked the fuses like previous posters suggested... and I found at least 15!!!!(unbelievable!) were loose. All of the giant ones for “hi” (assuming my for the 4wd but I don’t know for sure) were all incredibly loose. I pushed every one of them in that I found loose and properly seated them. I started my truck again and the light is off after shifting to 4wd. I’m hoping this was my fix, but almost too easy to be true. Especially when I bought my truck brand new— a 2020 rubicon jlu with 15k miles on it... how can that many fuses be that loose at same time unless it is due to some lazy turd at the factory not giving a crap when putting it together??!! To me, that is incredibly unacceptable and would be nice if jeep would improve their quality inspections... or discipline when they find an employee isn’t doing the checks they should be.. or the work they should be!! A $60k truck should have all the fuses seated properly from factory. In any event, for those who have read this long- thank u! And try your fuses first!
