My daughter is in a booster seat and can’t buckle her own seat belt in my wrangler because the buckle is too far recessed. She is mildly upset about her lack of independence. Plus it’s kind of a pain to reach over her and do it every time.

I noticed the seat belts were specific to the latch, like the middle seat belt will not latch into the anything except the middle receptical.

Just wondering if anybody knows of like a 6” extender so it’s not recessed into the seat.

I see the universal ones but it I can’t imagine them working. I’d imagine they have to be specific to the JL and the particular seat.

thanks in advance

Amazon has a bunch. Any extender with the correct buckle width should work. Not sure what ours are in the rear.

I think they're all the same. But I tried to run my specifics thru there and find the center seat belt extender. Looks like they don't have one. But might be worth a call.

They have the middle one on the 2022, assuming it’s the same for yours.

Did their extender end up working for you? I am looking for the exact same thing, and can’t seem to find the right kind of buckle on Amazon to match the center rear. Which, WHY DID THEY MAKE IT DIFFERENT TO BEGIN WITH?! Ugh…

I procrastinated and never got it, I have to buckle her in every time and every single time I regret not buying it.

My problem is I have three across, so can’t reach the buckle in between the booster and the car seat next to it… The website says no extender available anyway unless I need to pick different options.

I obviously knew the Jeep wasn’t going to be the family truckster but in fairness, it was here before kid #3

I’ve done 3 car seats a few times. Tom cruise in mission impossible, aka ethan hunt, would not be able to do this.

this is good advice because some that look fine on Amazon turn out to be flimsy and poorly made out of bad materials: thin metal badly chromed, poorly molded plastics, notchy action.

I learned this a bit late by having to send back a few I bought from Amazon. They all fit fine in the OEM buckle because that's just a shape thing, and it's easy to choose the right shape. A poorly made extender is fine if all you want is to turn off the chime. But if you want to plug a seat belt into it and have it hold you in place during a collision, you want something well made with the same testing they do with OEM seatbelts, such as the E4 certification this link mentions.
_______
One reason to use a short or medium extender in your OEM buckle (just the buckle part, without a strap) is that OEM seatbelt click latches wear out. I've seen this in a few makes of cars, but it was true in my 2000 TJ. After 15 years of driving it and using the seatbelts, I noticed they didn't latch as easily or release as easily. They were slowly going bad. I put some extenders in the TJ's OEM buckles to stop the daily wear of latching unlatching. With the JLR, I put some in during the first year so the OEM buckles won't accumulate wear. If the aftermarket buckles start to wear I can replace them.

I know this is an old post. This same problem has been bothering me as well. Until today, I had to reconsider putting the youngest child in the middle seat to separate the two older children who were fighting like cats and dogs. I compared the other seat belt buckles with this middle buckle to try to understand what the difference is and why there is no suitable extender on the market. Here is a comparison of the side buckle and the middle buckle.

When I found the old JK seat belt extender in the drawer, I found that the middle buckle can be inserted into the old JK extender slot. It turns out that the second row center seat belt buckle of JL is a modified JK buckle. Use a file to narrow the sides of the JK buckle extender and make a small semicircular hole on the head. It works! Hope this can help others who have this problem.

I got mine from Seat Belt Extender Pro, but I had to message them directly with my Wrangler’s year and trim. They didn’t list it on the site, but they sourced one that fit the rear outboard buckle. The seat belt extender made it so much easier for my kid to be independent again.
