You are not paranoid at all . You have been reading about issues posted by real owners . You ought to consider what you have read , because it's your money . Knowledge is good .

Your friends are wrong to call you crazy to consider buying a Jeep ; they likely do not know anything about Jeeps . Jeeps are good .

I am a realistic Jeep loyalist of many years , but some of these people trying to urge you to buy a Jeep are apologists for unacceptable poor quality . Because they have spent their money , they then urge you to spend your money also . Not so . Don't listen to salesmen or other Jeep owners telling you to spend spend spend your money on a new Jeep . It's your money , not theirs . Your money is yours to decide .

That said , if you are really into Jeeps , then decide for yourself . Jeeps are fun .
Old8tora, I read your comment and I am reminded of the Jaguar owners in the 70s that had a tale of work about their transmissions. I agree with everything you said.

@LLRubylady, you have every right to be concerned. When one starts spending $50K, there's a level of quality to be met.

Driven jeeps my whole life and never seen so many problems in a jeep. Seen far too many with questionable build quality. Do buy a jeep but wait for the 2019 when they have likely fixed the issues. . 2018 isnt worth the problems. Plus at this point you can order in about 3 weeks.

Are you serious? Good lord, the problems each generation had is plenty.

How many "abouts" can you put in a forum subject line?

Hi all, I spent the better part of my holiday weekend reading this forum and I'm overwhelmed to say the least.

My 18 Wrangler Unlimited Sport is my first ever new vehicle. I've always wanted a Jeep despite my family telling me otherwise.

I noticed while driving home from the dealer that it is very hard to go straight, constantly correcting my direction of travel. After reading some of the posts here I'm now afraid to put my kids in my Jeep. Mortified!

Another thing about mine, it has never turned off at a stop. Is the ESS on all new Jeeps? mine has a V6 and automatic.

It ESS is on all 18 JL that I know of, the steering is a issue on some units, they have to find a good fix, mine is not as bad as others. I do not bet the 19 will have a fix, we will see!

Try to relax and give the dealer a chance to make it right.
As far ESS goes, if it has been sitting on the lot for awhile, the battery may not be charged enough yet for the ESS to kick in.

I've had it a week now. If it had a charging issue it would have a dead battery by now?
My understanding is there are two batteries , top and bottom . Check both . Maybe they need to replace one ?

Having a warranty check of both batteries will not be as inconvenient as being stranded . Good luck .

No problems with the Jeep are your responsibility ; all problems with the Jeep are FCA's responsibility .

There are no more issues than with any other new car that I have bought and that is about 20 new cars. The people that are not buying these because of what they read should probably just go buy a bus pass. There is no perfect vehicle. You buy old, there could be issues. You buy new, there could be issues. The difference is when you buy new you get to go drop it off at the dealer and let them fix it while you drive a loaner.

Do what you wish but I am so glad I didn’t wait. Enjoying every minute of ownership, especially yesterday out wheeling in the back country with 9 others.
My dealer is great. Had a piece of plastic dislocate in the interior and they fixed it no questions asked and put leather conditioner on the seats.

On average, it takes a manufacturer about three model years to identify and redesign mechanical deficiencies. Something like the steering issue will require testing, engineering, manufacturing implementation, etc. Same with the starter noise and the atomic cloud at start up. Issues that can be corrected on-the-fly during manufacturing (like welds and installation problems) can be fixed quickly. If you’re going to wait until “the kinks are worked out,” you’ll likely be waiting for the 2020 or 2021 models. Manufacturers also usually only implement updated parts “moving forward” and only backwards if a vehicle under warranty experiences a catastrophic failure. If your piston gaskets were installed incorrectly, you’ll only get a fix if your engine is throwing codes and you’re under warranty. That’s why, when your dealer doesn’t know how to fix your steering issue, they’ll call you and say something canned by a lawyer like, “the steering is performing as designed.” You think it’s loose—but is it? Is it? Because, after all, steering and handling are subjective.

Also, keep in mind that there’s a whole group of people who will never notice anything wrong with a car. My wife, for example, drove our Infiniti 25 miles with a completely flat tire and never noticed. Ruined the rim. Is she ever going to care about the welds on our JL’s frame? That’s likely a negative, Ghost Rider. A coworker swears his JK doesn’t have a single issue. Yet, his radio doesn’t work and his headlights flash when he turns on his blinker.

We bought ours knowing it would probably have a bunch of issues. We also bought it knowing every issue would be a battle with the service department. Going into it with realistic standards has helped keep our blood pressure normal-ish. We wanted a fun vehicle. If we wanted something reliable and comfortable, we would have bought a Toyota.

It’s sort of like buying a whole summer wardrobe at Old Navy. You damn well know it’s all going to turn into toddler clothes in the first wash but the patterns are so fun! And OMG, is that a pair of salmon shorts with palm trees on them?!? Must. Have.
