Rusty Head on T50 Door Bolts

Just took off my doors. Rust is showing up on the T50 Door Bolts. Can I use Ospho to clean these up and protect? Not sure if Ospho reacts with some metals and might be an issue or whether something like vinegar or CLR might be better.

Any opinions?

You're talking about the bolts you removed from the bottom of the hinge? Toss them in a drawer and forget about them. Saves time next time you go to remove the doors. Many do this without issue.

Can just replace the bolts as well. They're not that expensive

Use 000 steel wools to clean the rust and reblue with oil quench or just use something like perma-blue.

Ospho is a rust neutralizer, it won't protect in the long run. best to ospho, sand, then repaint. OR just replace them.

If I wasn't replacing them, I wouldn't even bother with ospho. Just hit them with a wire wheel real quick and spray with rustoleum gloss black. DONE, move on with life.

Throw 'em away. They serve no purpose besides making it take longer to remove/replace doors.

I did it and added screw-on caps to prevent clumsy me from damaging the hinge paint too much when installing the doors back:

Mine came out the day it came home, been sitting in the tray ever since. They won't go back in unless I sell or trade it, if I remember. Been this way 3 years now.
