I guess I was naive in thinking the RSE sliders were really tough and then I see the “armor“ option.
The RSE sliders are very tough and we've wheeled them a lot with very few issues.

The armor is for those who are constantly out in the rocks and on those next level harder trails. If you are out doing weekend trail rides, you shouldn't have to worry about armoring them.

Just wanted to update on my experience with the Gen 3 steps on my Gladiator. I had all kinds of problems with them sporadically stop extending since I got them in 2021. Sometimes pulling the fuse or unplugging the plug to the control board at the step helped and other times they simply wouldn't extend for months When I got them they had the white control boards/boxes in the steps. I ended up getting the white control boxes replaced by Rockslide with the latest black ones early this year. The steps have been rock solid in their operation ever since. Rockslide was excellent with their customer support. You do have to pull the steps to replace the boards but it is well worth it!

I have had the 3rd gen RSE step sliders on my 24 Rubicon X 4xe since February. This morning I stepped out of my jeep onto the steps, heard a loud grinding sound, and the step stopped working. I messaged RSE and they said it sounds like the motor is broke so they are sending me out a new one under warranty. That is great they are doing that but I would kinda like to avoid this happening. I don't think of myself as all THAT heavy (235lbs). Has this happened to anybody else? Should I be being more careful?

Thanks!

Your weight shouldn't matter. Unless for some reason you were on it while it was moving.

I don't think I was but maybe it went down slower than I expected? Not sure, something for me to pay attention to in the future.

Received the bump stops yesterday. Went to put them on and the slider wouldn't fully close. Contacted the company and they said they sent gen 2, not gen 3 size by accident. Have to wait for the next set to come in.

Did you ever get the correct bumpers installed? If so, did that take care of the noise?

I did. They work for a little while then eventually start to clank again. When I called I asked for a few extra sets so I swap them out occasionally

Thanks. Mine makes kind of a snapping sound. The passenger side retracts smoothly and quietely. I will see how the bumper works. I wonder why they do not work permanently. RSE basically told me it is not hurting anything. What else would they say?

I've used the last 2 generations of their step sliders and every now and then re-post this for those that are having activation issues:

RSE Step Sliders...
I got tired of pulling and reinserting the 20 amp fuse next to the battery... a PIA for sure at night and/or inclement weather. So I replaced the 20 amp fuse with one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BG68MQ1X...
FWIW, I once pulled the specs for those sensor switches provided by RSE and tried to get RSE to understand their design and implementation of the magnets during installation needed some clarification. At times, those magnets may appear to work correctly when placed on or near the switch. The switch design actually requires the magnet to be within the sensing area on the front of the switch and not on the top, as implemented by RSE.
Furthermore, while those round magnets may appear to trigger the switch when held directly to the top of the switch, I did also find that rotating the magnet, while in the RSE-design location, would cause the switch to NOT work. The magnetic field of the round magnet could be incorrect to trigger the switch if installed with a certain rotation with respect to the top of the switch.
So, if you are still having problems, and RSE is promising to send more switches to replace perceived faulty switches... just buy some new double-sided adhesive, or even some new adhesive-backed magnets and find the right rotation before installing.

Why?
Because I been there and done that.
I also don't understand why RSE just didn't run a wire to the CAN BUS to sense when a door was open or closed... ever look at your instrument panel when you open a door?

Does anyone know what could be going on with my Rse steps. I just installed them on my 392 a week ago and having some issues with them. My passenger side occasionally gets stuck in the down position. I fixed it by unplugging and plugging the rear sensor back in. it will work for a few days and then get stuck again. On the drivers side, my step will work when sitting in the driveway and then as soon as I drive somewhere and get out the step is stuck in the down position until I unplug the rear sensor. I have adjusted the magnets a little bit but it seems like I’m having sensor issues. Rse is sending me some new sensors but I’m no convinced this will solve it

Check the color of your control boards in the step white or black, that the big plug plugs into. If they are white replace them. RSE will probably send them for free.

I’ll take a look at that when I get a chance

Have you already read the post above yours and applied his advice without improvement?

My experience with the new Gen 3 install......

I revisited my previous comment after a couple critical replies to it. I really wanted to give these steps a try on my Jeep. So I ordered a set after evaluating all the comments again.
They came very quickly, with the LED light set following a few days later. Packed very well and all the hardware and instructions were very clear.
I did have some previously installed tube step/sliders to remove first. So now I have the original Rubicon rock sliders and some tube steps sitting in my way. (Jeep parts, right?!)

The wiring harness was a bit of a chore. It was a struggle to get the fuse holder through the small gap between the firewall and fender/liner. Getting the driver side plastic trim removed was also a bit aggravating and I seemed to have broken a couple very small tabs that capture the trim in place. It did snap back in and seems secure. More about the trim later....

I wanted to tackle the 6 body mount bolts next. They are tight, no doubt. I used a long 1/2" breaker bar and worked them back and forth, no more than a quarter turn at a time. I did not need to use any heat on them. My JLUR is a '21 model and had the big washers captured onto the flange of the body bolt hex head. Once I was satisfied that I had them well broken loose, at least 3 full turns, I used my 1/2" impact to spin them the rest of the way out. Took the bolts to my bench grinder and with the washer against the side of the wheel, a quick spin was all that was needed to get the washer free on the bolt. These washers have to be free to allow the slide step mounting brackets to go in place. I covered the fresh grind marks as well as the threads with a liberal coat of anti-seize. They were not any trouble to get started back in place (someone had mentioned once they were difficult??)

I supported the steps on my roll around motorcycle lift which made it fairly easy to get them into position for the mounting bolts to slip through the holes in the pinch weld. The passenger side seemed a chore, but I guess I just had to get the angle right. The driver side slipped right into place much easier. (always easier the 2nd time!)

When I placed the door sensors, I carefully drilled about a 5/16" hole through the flange of the B pillar trim and then routed a slot from the hole with a Dremel for the sensor harness to pass through without being pinched. I don't know that this is necessary, but it seemed like a good idea. The rear door magnets seemed a bit problematic to get to stick to the foam. I ended up using a bit of Weldwood contact cement to get them to stay. Maybe because it was pretty cold in my shop that they didn't want to stick to the foam.

I also installed the optional light kit and I think that is a real nice addition, it looks great in dim light. They don't really light up the rear part of the step, but the front is very well lit up.

So far, everything deploys and retracts as it should and is pretty quiet. I sprayed all the moving parts with some good quality lube and will continue to do that. I don't live where we get much snow, so I won't have to deal with slush and salt buildup unless I travel north. My wife can get in now, so I am done with fooling with a step stool for the time being. I had already backed over one of them this past year after forgetting to put it away.

All in all, very satisfied with the quality and the look. I hope I have good luck with the functionality.
hi
any chance you have a picture of hole you drilled and the chanel, maybe a final picture?.thanks tackling mine this weekend
