Put mine on a couple of weeks ago now. Install was straightforward. These things are pretty heavy!

Love the look of these rails!! And thank you for the great DIY photos. Newbie question since I have only owned my 2018 Rubicon for 4 weeks now--do these go over the current rock rails or do they replace them? I don't have any plans of off-roading at this point, just curious. Thanks.

That looks good. What did you do to the Roam cutout? I can't see it. I just ordered my rails and was trying to find a solution for the cutout. They look to be well made, look good and function well, but I am not a fan of logos or badges, my only hesitation was the logo cutouts.
I did make any changes to it, See attached:

Be careful about using a relay if you have the optional factory LED option, as even a solid state relay, will not work with the Roam LED's.

It took me a while to figure that out the hard way.

Just connect them direct to the interior light wire with a fuse in between.

Anybody do any serious off-road activity with these? How are they holding up?

Yup. I’ve taken a good portion of the powder coating off of mine. They are about 50% Tremclad semi-gloss black now. LOL. So far they have held up great being banged around and dragged off stumps and rocks. Structurally still 100% sound. They have lived through a Caniadian winter, and still look great. I have no rusting issues, and even the included lights still work after being submerged plenty of times.. I honestly only have good things to say about the frame mounted steps.

Thx for the very detailed instructions. Helped a ton as I just installed my bed-lined MK3's. I do have a question regarding the torque recommendations as I see this was shared:

M6 -> 9 Nm / 7 ft-lbs
M6 (trilobial) -> 6 Nm / 4.4 ft-lbs
M8 -> 22 Nm / 16 ft-lbs
M10 -> 44 Nm / 32 ft-lbs
M12 -> 77 Nm / 57 ft-lbs
3/8" -> 44 Nm / 32 ft-lbs

Question can someone assist and tell me which bolts align to the above torque specs?

As I received:
  • 6 black long bolts for bracket #1 (a little longer than the 6 silver used for bracket 3).
  • 6 silver long bolts for bracket #3
  • 18 bolts to attach rails to the brackets (although it only called for 16).
  • Also not sure the torque required for brackets #2 & #4 using the factory body mount nuts.

Hardware provided:

Thanks.

Anthony confirmed today all the bolts are M10. M10 -> 44 Nm / 32 ft-lbs.

Can somebody explain the difference between the frame mount and body mount options? Is one better than the other for sturdiness? Or is one easier to install than the other?

Is the first post in this thread for installation of the frame mounting?

I dig the look of these. Just trying to decide if I want the frame mounted rock rails or the body mounted armor side steps. They both kinda look the same to me from pictures.

not difficult to install. depending on your location in NY i'd be happy to help you install them (mine went on easily) in centralish jersey.
