Remote Start Issues Aux Bypass

Bought my daughter a used ‘20 Sahara Altitude in October. In November the battery died, so replaced it with an Autozone Duralast 35DL. Everything works fine except the remote start started working sporadically. I figured it was the aux battery so tried to replace this morning. When I removed the last cover (i went from top) I was surprised to find there wasn’t one. After doing some research it looks like the previous owner bypassed it. My question is other than reverse the bypass at the dealer what are my options? Can I get an H7 battery and all good? There aren’t any lights or messages currently. Posting a pic of the negative terminal and battery receipt i used. I compared the negative terminal to my ‘24 Rubicon and it’s definitely different. However i have the factory tow package. Any help appreciated.

From some quick research it seems the Rubicon X of which you speak comes from the factory with dual AGM batteries. If this is incorrect the questions I'm about to ask you to get answer to won't be appropriate.

It seems from your picture that the prior owner yanked the cable that connects the negative terminal of the ESS/Aux battery to the main battery's negative terminal.

Usually this is done in concert with other steps.

In the dash (the EVIC) do you see an ESS off light? This looks like the letter "A" with a near circle around it following by an exclamation point?

Find the PDC. It's that black box near the top of the engine bay near the passenger's seat. Take off its cover. Find Fuse 42. There's a fuse map on the inside of the PDC's cover. Does Fuse 42 seem to be pulled out?

In the PDC locate the corner closest to the driver's side and front of the vehicle. You'll see a connection post for cables. We'll call in N1. Next to it, no surprise, is N2.

Has any wire been placed between these two terminals?

Based on your answers we can move forward from there.

I'd prefer to not write novels until I have a better understanding of what is going on under your hood.

Oops, we're talking about a 20 Sahara Altitude not your Rubicon X. We do need to get down how the vehicle was outfitted battery-wise by the factory; e-torq I believe absent an ESS battery from the factory......

My money is on the Sahara having the 3.6 with eTorque.

Does it have an alternator?

That’s a good question. I can’t find anything on the paperwork. Here’s a pic. Man…feel helpless lol.

looks like E Torque generator. So it would have no aux battery or fuse 42. It does however have a 48 V battery under the jeep. Take it to the dealer.

Another clue this is an etorque is that there isn't a cable on the N3 terminal and there is a metal shunt connecting N2 to N1.

Just spit balling here. Any chance the key fob battery is going south?

Replaced the FOB battery the same day.
