I have a 2020 JLUR.

I potted both of my sensors very early into ownership (first few months) and have never had issues.

last week my rear locker said it was engaged in 2wd…but it wasn’t. I put it in 4 low, engaged the locker and confirmed it engaged then disconnected. The light flashed but never confirmed disengage, although it was in fact disconnected.

i ordered the z-automotive sensor fix and the replacement internal sensor.

the z automotive fixed the issue as expected.

today I opened the differential and swapped the sensor. I cleaned the magnet and all the area around the sensor before installing.

immediately upon Turing the vehicle on, it says the locker is engaged.

I did a few cycles of engaging disconnecting and it behaves the same as before swapping.

The only part left in the equation appears to be the wire harness internally.

does this sound right, or is there something else I should look for? I have to open it again as I have a leak now on the differential. If the harness is easily replaced I may try that, otherwise I am going to hit it with electronic cleaner to see if maybe oil got into the connector.

Where did you get the sensor? They come in a kit with 5 sensors and you have to do a trial and error to see which one in the kit works for your Jeep.

Well that explains it. I got it from eBay and only bought a single. Should have paid better attention.

Also, if the Z Automotive patch worked, it's not your harness (at least up to the diff) because that still uses your stock harness.

When I recently had the sensor failure, the dealer said the issue isn’t always directly the sensor, something about oil getting in to the wiring. Which I’m guessing is why they did a full axle housing replacement on mine.

My guess is that someone bought the kit with 5 sensors, found the one that works for their Jeep and then are selling the other 4. If so, problem is that those that buy the other 4 individually only have a 1 in 5 chance that the one they bought is compatible with their Jeep.
