Haven’t heard any complaints with the Metalcloak rear diff skid so you’re probably good there. I agree Next Venture is awesome, but super pricey.

I personally barely hit my differentials when wheeling (now that I said it, it’s going to change ?), but I have dragged them a couple times. I’m most worried about pealing a cover and springing a leak. No drain plug to cover on the newer (I think 2021+) front D44’s, and the rear plug is fairly out of the way.

I picked up some Motobilt covers over the summer during a sale that are currently waiting for a coat of paint and will go on with my next diff oil change. I liked ARB and HD Dana covers too, but price was right, and this way when I do scrape them, I can touch them up easily.

I am in an RV, currently in tombstone Az. The road we took is just on the outskirts of Sierra Vista Az. Called Ash Canyon Rd. And like I do, it was a branch off the main Rd.

We were only out for maybe an hour or so. Just wanted to get out for a bit and let the dogs run.
I was down there just before xmas for some Mearns quail hunting. It's been pretty bad, from my friend's report. I stayed in a VRBO in Whetstone. I had to leave my Jeep in Whetstone with a friend, because I had towed it down with my truck, and due to a bout with covid, knew I couldn't drive the full distance back to socal, so my wife had to drive at least half of it. I didn't think she could handle the towing safely, so leaving it with a friend was the option.

I'll probably head back down there either tomorrow or Saturday.

Well that sounds like it wasn't fun. Hope your better and have a good trip home.

Yes sir that is correct if you have a D44 up front. I have the M186/D30 up front.

I just got off a chat with them. Their front differential cover will not work on my D30. The rear one will work.

I was hoping to get match set front and rear from the same mfg.

Just got off the phone with rancho also. Both theirs are out of stock and obsolete. Supposedly they are working on the replacements. But they only list a new number for one, and the guru knew nothing.

He is supposed to contact back.

Thanks, I may go this route. Just get a cover like motobilt. I will see if they have the rear as well. The only sucky part is I just changed diff. Fluid in both.
The differential assembly relies on the inside shape of the cover for proper oiling. IMO, a nodular iron cover that keeps the same shape as the stock cover is your best bet. Both Dana Spicer and AEV should have them (although I don't think AEV makes a cover for the front M186).

Knowing that you aren't going to be the guy that needs to be dragged off the trail is priceless.
Hundreds or thousands of people get 'dragged off' trails every year :)
