I guess I wouldn't rule it out, but it happens worse in certain temperatures and pretty much goes away with premium gas. That's a sign of pre-spark ignition.
FWIW... ever since I put on a catch can (in this case, UPR), I have noticed much less, if not at all, noise. Maybe it's placebo effect (hopefully not), but I really think it made a huge difference.

Mine doesn't do it as much when it's summer temperatures. Typically it does it when the engine is hot and the air temperature is cooler (50s-60s).

Interesting.

My next fill up, I will also be putting in premium. Will see if that makes a difference.

Jasmine, I sent you a private message about next steps. Thanks!
I just answered and will continue assisting from there. I'd also like to note our team are not trained as technicians nor can we diagnose vehicles over the internet. This is why we encourage you to continue working with your dealer but we can escalate a case to make sure all options have been explored during service. Thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon.

New observation: It is way worse when it is extra humid outside. The last few days it has rained constantly and I am getting the pinging on low RPMs in 3rd and 4th gears. High grade gas helps, but it doesn't completely eliminate it.

2017 JKU 15k miles, 3.6l auto. Same sound on 87 octane, especially climbing hills in 4th. No sound on 93 octane. Appointment with dealer next Monday, but based on this, not confident they can resolve it.

just an update. Dropped the jeep off on the 18th and they have still not had time to look at it. Its crazy im making payments to a car that is broken on the dealers lot.

Add us to the list. I can’t believe this is happening. $57,000 and the “new car” joy was gone before we even hit 2,000 miles. Now it feels like I’m driving an old clunker. I’ve got the rattle upon acceleration between 2nd and 3rd gear that’s most noticeable going up hills and as the outdoor temps get warmer. Also have a horrible hissing sound when the brakes are applied and released after starting...most noticeable in the garage because it contains the sound. That also started around 2000 miles. Lots of other clunks and noises after starting cold. In a matter of 2000 miles I went from this absolutely solid sounding engine to something I’m scared to drive. I didn’t sleep last night after reading all the articles in this forum (and the forum about the hissing noise). This is a nightmare. Going to dealership on June 10 and going to have them read every article in this forum. No need for them to keep my new Jeep for a month when they can read this forum and get all the answers to what the problem is along with all the attempted fixes that haven’t worked for other people...and then ultimately discover there is no real fix. That Rubicon Unlimited in my garage was my dream of 30 years. Now I just want to cry.

Did they say how you get a cracked flywheel at 2,000 miles? Our rattle noises, among others, started at the same mileage. I have an appointment with the dealership and plan on showing them these posts. We bought and use our Jeep not just for personal use, but for branding of our business and if they end up with it for weeks I’m going to lose my mind.

Just got back from the dealership and the service adviser said they couldn't duplicate the rattle (shocker) and that everything looked good from underneath. So I guess I'll be doing some investigating of my own!

Jesus... Please keep us updated. Was your noise constant or was it in low RPM like ours?

Hi all, I know you may be experiencing a separate issue but I had a pre ignition knock sound especially when hot and humid out and higher octane fuel eliminated it. Now I'm dealing with some sort of driveline knocking. It goes back to the dealer July 12th. Good luck, its amazing Jeep hasn't recalled these JLs yet.

So, I took a video and if you have the volume up and/or wear headphones you can clearly hear the rattle/knocking or whatever it is. My JL has been doing this since the I got it, but didn't notice it for awhile, because I always had the radio on. You can hear right at the start of the video for a second, then at 12-16 seconds and then 28-42 seconds. It does it consistently, but I can sustain it around 30-34mph when it has settled into gear and gently press the gas (that is 28-42 seconds at about 34mph) If anyone that hears it can tell me if you JL does the same or if you know what the problem is that would be great. I am about to schedule a trip to the dealer. Thanks!
My JLU Rubicon does this as well. 11,400 miles now but been doing it since the second factory oil change.
