Quirks not addressed in User Guide

There was a recent post made by a member who has a manual JL with the cold weather package, and was asking how to have them turn on automatically. After directing him to the uconnect setting, he reported back that there was no menu listing to turn it on. Possibly an unmentioned tweak made between model years?

I have auto but I would think that would be welcome news for some MT owners (and probably not for others).

By default, the Wranglers come with a user guide and not a manual. The manual is much more comprehensive. Normally you need to order one although they are free. It is nice if the dealer did that for you but I would check the title on the book.

Learn something new every day! I looked at what I THOUGHT was the manual, and it's only a User Guide. What I thought was the User Guide, is a Quick Reference Guide or some such thing. Guess I'll have to download the MANUAL and keep it on the laptop.
(I recall a Ram from 6 years ago only having the Quick Reference Guide and a CD, so I downloaded the "Manual" off the Internet, and it was pretty big - bigger than what I thought was the manual in the Jeep)

The garage door opener not working is quite intentional.

For the second part, do you have a manual transmission or the auto? It may sound completely irrelevant, but it isn't.

I have the auto tranny.

I got a manual on my 2020. In fact, it’s the first one that actually fits in the glove box. Comes in a green bag. Also, it’s on the 8.4 radio as well. Used it from time to time.

Guys the book that comes with the truck, in the green bag is NOT the owners manual. Its the "user guide" which is different, very different from what I have been told and thats what it states in the guide. See page 1 - it reads in bold type : this user guide is not a replacement for the full owners manual and does not fully cover every operation of your vehicle. Hey Rick.

First, thanks for your first sentence. It reminds people that FCA's contract with you on owner operation is solely the owner's manual.

As I read above, people have well covered the fact that the the garage door button's lack of being energized with the rig off is by design so that, particularly with attached garages, whose door to the home is notoriously flimsy, poorly configured with locks, and often unlocked, doesn't find your rig's garage buttons as the weak link in a home burglary when that rig is parked outside the garage.

Several people have posted workarounds to this. Here's one I found.

Essentially it involves energizing this rig's garage door buttons with a wire that is *less* dependent on whether the rig is on or off than the factory wire, which is purely an "accessory" lead: accessory being defined here as wire only energized when the rig's start button is pressed twice (with or without depressing the brake.)

(Perhaps one push of the start button works too.)

I say "less dependent" because my own testing of this a while back for another project found my vanity lights to unpredictable (at least as I could see) shut off after the rig was off a period of time.

Another option, although probably too much effort here, is accessing the cargo area 12V plug, if equipped. It is designed from the factory to always be on, independent of the rig being on. (This can be changed per the owner's manual to accessory like behavior with the moving of a fuse.)

When I installed a dash camera its technology needed power not simply when the rig was on or off, but to know when such a state occurs, as it uses less power, and shuts off if it uses too much, when the rig is off. I taped the wire than energizes the garage door remote and this cargo plug to effect a situation where the camera would always have power, independent of the rig's on or off state, and know when the rig is shut down.

Owners manual is 600 plus pages. Will only fit in glove box by itself. It’s available online, in print, or with the highest infotainment system. I have an 18, and had to order it twice because they sent an 18 Jk manual.

The garage door opener is only powered on when your ignition is ON. This is for all cars. This is so no one can open your garage by breaking a window or cutting your soft top.

This is false. While it is true for Wranglers, with every other car I've owned, including my wife's Cherokee, this works when the car is off. It makes sense from a Wrangler standpoint as your doors could be off...though it is frustrating.

When I got my 2019 I also got an error and couldn't order using the form. You can call customer service or use Jeep chat (https://fcacommunity.force.com/Jeep/s/ and go to contact us/Chat) and they can get the order completed. I did use the Jeep chat and got the manuals in a week or so.

You can program the heated seat and heated steering wheel function to not turn on. It is tied to ambient temps outside.

This is not true, on my wifes Subaru Outback, the garage door opener works fine when the vehicle is off. I can't say what is "normal" but the Jeeps configuration does make sense considering it is a convertible that allows the doors to be taken off

The OP clearly stated that they turn on automatically. That should make it blatantly obvious about what transmission he has. "Bit of an oversight there".

It's a toggle for the automatic, easily changed in the settings. Speak only of what you know.

So a follow up on the Owners Manual vs. User Guide. Jeep Chat on the owner site got one ordered for me and it showed up today. VERY different than what was delivered with the vehicle as you can see in the photo. Also, in a separate package, was the warranty guide which apparently they figured out was not delivered with vehicle.

2 18's 1 20 and the garage door opener on the visor will not open or close the door when the vehicle is off.
On the other hand ,now press the start button twice without putting the foot on the brake and your buttons will work.
I found to program the buttons works best if the engine is running.

After programmed works as designed.
