I wonder if your plastic plugs will melt during a hot summer day. As we know vehicles get very hot with the windows rolled up in the summer.

If they do melt it will cause one heck of a mess.

No, no way will they soften or melt.. Maximum temperature for the polyethylene plastic plugs being sold by the eBAY seller is 150° F.

Ones I bought can handle around 170 F continuously and over that (185+ F) in short increments. I think i'm good for an Oklahoma summer.

@Needalife

I did an oven test on one of the plastic plugs. My oven was on at 175 F continuously.... the plug appeared to keep it's shape and the oven was running at 175 for a good stint. I stopped at 175 ..

Anyway, though the plug specs say it can deal with 150, it can deal with lots more then that.

For sure I will monitor the plugs if I ever think my JL's interior is over 150.

I thought of using a metal plate but I would have to have a metal piece across most of my dash to get the desired affect.

I think my vent cover is in its final form. We had some freezing rain recently and with one notch in the middle there were two spots of ice at about 10:30 and 1:30 near the top of the windshield, each about 6 inches in diameter. I cut two more notches near the ends of the cover and I'm getting good airflow at 10:30 and 1:30. I'm calling it good.

After almost 2 months of winter and using the plastic vent plugs, I don't see much improvement. The way this thing works is just not up to defrosting the entire windshield properly. The fan still blows lots of hot air in the center. The vent plugs help a little but not enough to keep ice from my line of vision. If I drove from the center of the Jeep,it would probably be OK.
Jeep sent their satisfaction survey and I spent a lot of time pointing out this design flaw. Replied in the affirmative to would it be ok to contact me but I'm sure they won't.
The defrost button does help to defrost the center quicker

Just wanted to ask if there might be an acceptable fix on the horizon for this ongoing issue. I would like to have a more functional defroster for this winter. Thank you.

Hi mcolv2,
I checked our system for any STAR cases or TSBs that may address this concern and I did find STAR case #S1924000008 that describe symptoms similar to what you have experienced. I recommend contacting your dealer to learn more about this STAR case so they can determine if it applies to your Jeep. You're welcome to send us a private message if you have any additional questions!

Is there some place we can see a description of what this STAR case is? My defroster has never worked great, but I've been told it works "as designed."
